I can't have eye contact with someone seriously for more than some seconds, it just gets too awkward for me lol xD

It used to be hard for me back in my young days

Now I can't stand when people don't look at me when talking :P

The above. It's like, what the hell are you looking at, I'm over here.

Then again, it's not like I can't understand not being able to maintain it. Every now and again it still happens to me.

I also have similar problem as original poster. Except that I generally look to the ground when I walk because if eye contact was made in the neighborhood I grew up in it usually ended in a nasty fight. Unfortunately its sort of carried on to older years even though I've moved from that neighborhood. But the strangest thing is I can look at most people when talking to them and in interviews I'm very confident . So it feels quite weird.

I do it to intimidate or to show respect.

I've been told what I think is my blank face, is actually an angry scowl, so people tend to avoid eye contact with me.

In other words; What I think I'm doing vs what I'm actually doing .

I can't make eye contact. Glance here and there at the person or I stare at their ear so they think I'm making eye contact.

Apparently it is for Japanese. My friend is over there in Japan now and she says no one makes eye contact over there.

I'm okay making eye contact with people. Unless they are conceited or bitchy. I need to fix that..
In the past I was really shy and couldn't make eye contact with anyone.

I only make eye contacts if someone is talking. You can call that manners. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother to do it.

for me it depends on the situation. if i'm with my friends then i use eye contact every now and then. but if it's like a teacher, employer, or some random adult that has authority over me, then i will look them directly in the eye. probably divert my attention once, then focus back on them.

I always make eye contact with people, but in certain situations I don't even stare at them. I look at the wall or something mainly because that person pissed me off or they've done so much messed up things that I have no respect for them.

I always make eye contact with people unless I can tell that it is making the other person really uncomfortable then I focused on their mouth. I don't have any problem with it and it bothers me when I talk to people and they won't look me in the eye. I guess I feel this way because I make eye contact with people to let them know they have my attention and I care about what they are saying, when other people don't make eye contact with me it make me feel like they don't really want to talk to me, or they are trying to get something out of me.

As a social introvert, I find it difficult for me to directly talk to people with eye contact unless it's online like Skype, and this often leads people to believing I'm either a snob or unapproachable...
