I look straight ahead. If their eyes are level with mine, I make eye contact. If they are too tall or short, then I don't.

It's as simple as that.

I try to. It's always been difficult for me to keep eye contact. It scares me to do so. I don't know why, but it does.

Dogs use eye contact as a way of establishing rank. The first one to break it is the underdog, while the other is the alpha. I like to do this to strangers, but it usually ends up with them just being freaked out, while I stare at them psychotically.

Actually, if you avoid eye contact or don't hold it long, it doesn't necessarily denote rank. Dogs can fix their eyes on yours for many reasons and breaking contact isn't always negative, it could also be dismissive among other things.

If you look angry they'll break eye contact in fear you'll turn your wrath on them. If they break because you're expressionless, it's due to the fear you MIGHT be angry or confusion as to what you want. It's all about your facial expression. If you look at them happy and lovingly, even if they acknowledge you as their alpha, they'll hold eye contact. There are many more reasons for prolonged eye contact if you'd like to know more.

Dogs have learned over the 14k+ years we've been in conjunction, to follow our eye movement and guess, or assume, what it is we want of them. Symbiosis. This is the only reason why I don't feel negatively to having dogs, and actually have them myself.
We're a partnership.

when talking to someone I maintain eye contact so in that aspect of it no I don't have a problem with it, however if I'm walking and I look at someone and they look back at me I'm not going to maintain eye contact. I'll look at them and once they notice me I'll either look past them (if they're in the same direction I'm going in and is inevitable), or I'll go and look ack to where I was originally looking.

To me, maintaining eye contact with a complete stranger when not engaged in discussion is just as much a threat as is raising a fist to someone

no eye contact is easy, in fact I use it to break awkwardities and boredom, I will just pick a random person in the room and declare a staredown... I haven't lost a staredown since 2003 because I can manage to go something like 30 minutes without blinking... true statement

I know I already posted on this but it just reminded me of something.
When I was learning dancing in gym class, we had to regularly change partners. The teacher said "Remember to keep eye contact" so I had my eyes wide open staring at my partner who was some kid I hardly talked to. I guess he didn't understand my humor because his frightened reaction was hilarious. XD

i always do eye contact, it's not really something i think about. unless i start to think about it the moment i'm looking into someones eyes, then it feels weird. or if it's someone i have a crush on, i turn red! damn pale ass skin.
