Right Stuff has been dealing in anime for 25 years, which makes them one of the oldest, if not thee oldest, retailers around. I've been buying from them for a good number of years too. (though not nearly as long as they have been around)

The only place I know of that can even be comparable to TRSI is Amazon. Excuse me, I mean the FUNimation Amazon store when they have their 75% off sales. TRSI usually has really amazing sales themselves. The only complaint is that when TRSI has these sales, they are so hot that the items on sale go to backorder status quickly and you can be left waiting for quite a while for your purchase, as many have already indicated. It doesn't help matters much either that most people also have a tendency to select that free economy (aka snail) shipping on orders over $49. But even with that economy shipping, I have had orders come in as fast as a week. I do believe they are tax free in a majority of the states.

Frankly, any domestic item he sells can be had cheaper elsewhere, usually at Right Stuf. It is also known that he watches tRSi's stock level, and if he still has some when tRSi is out, he will jack the price up sky-high. (He's asking about $149 for the Cowboy Bebop boxset, despite Amazon having it for $45. And don't get me started on his Urusei Yatsura TV set... all 50 disks for only $2000!) The only thing I can recommend RACS for are the few import CDs he has; he sells those pretty close to the actual exchange rate.

I recall seeing taxes come up also; RACS only charges tax to residents of Virginia, tRSi likewise only in Iowa. However, many states do hold you responsible for claiming these purchases on your state tax returns, and paying sales tax on them then. I advise people never claim $0 unless it's true; a claim of $0 increases your chance for a state audit. Putting $100-200 usually seems safe.

I use Right Stuf all the time and never have had to sign for anything. There has been several times I have pre-ordered stuff through them and I actually received it at least a week before the official release. But then, it's been DVDs and not manga that I have pre-ordered.

RightStuf is one of the best. When I order I use the Free Economy shipping and get my stuff in under a week( and don't have to sign). Now the reason for this may be because I live in da big city (Atlanta) but my experience with them has always been good. The certainly pack your order better than Amazon does.

I just got an order from them in today actually, and one last week, and the week before, (I think you know where this is going) anyways I hate that since I live in Iowa I have to pay taxes but Since I live so close even with the economy shipping it usually arrives in a day or two I love the selection and prices(wow I feel like I'm trying to sell them) but overall I buy from them all the time and will probably find something on there I want to order this week as well. Oh and I've never had to sign for a package from them.

Well, you list your location as Canada; I'm going to assume that's correct. Partial shipments used to happen to Canada, but Canada Post's rising rates put an end to that; it wasn't feasible to do anymore, especially on orders that qualified for free shipping. Thus, by default, they ship when complete. If you had a preorder, or a book from a slow publisher, it may take longer to get your order. If you want, for a fee, they will split-ship on request. I believe for Canada, this fee is $7.

I still don't understand why the main forms of media distribution is done via discs.
Digital distribution gets all my support, hence the reason why I support Crunchyroll.

Anime figures and related goods, however, I just can't have enough money for all the figures I want.

This was a very informative thread. I had planned to buy through rightstuf in the future. Right now, I only shop through Amazon and take advantage of their "Free Super Saver Shipping deal." It either gets to me through USPS (priority mail) or Fedex and it comes within a week of when it's shipped. I once ordered a product from rightstuf, through the amazon dealer, and I got what I assume to be the economy USPS shipping and it took two and a half weeks. Knowing that, I don't think I'll use the "free economy shipping @$49" offer. If I dish out like maybe $10 total, I'd probably get my stuff within a week. It would be faster if I lived in the continental US.

I used to go through $100 or so a week on anime. That was years ago. Now, I rarely even spend that in a year.

As for Rightstuf, I have gotten a few things from them, typically through CR's deals.

Umm... I can tell you if you're ordering anime or manga from Amazon, they're shipping it Media Mail, same as RightStuf, unless you've also ordered something ineligible for MM, or you have Amazon Prime (which has its own associated cost). And the 2½ weeks? Was everything you ordered backordered? RightStuf dropships at the Des Moines, IA location, which is THE central mid-west hub for mail sorting. Barring a postal screwup, packages get to me in less than a week.

No, it shipped the day after I ordered, but it took a long time. It shipped around June 19 and I got it on July 5th-6th or so. Partially delayed because of the 4th of July being a federal holiday. Also, I live in Hawaii. I thought that this could have been the main reason why it took so long.
