true it is were the comedy is but sometimes in anime like high school of the dead the giant boobs often distract from the story

In the case of Eiken, it makes for rather hilarious comedy at the little girl's expense. Hell, that particular series was made to push the boundaries of what's acceptable in a relatively mainstream anime so of course I expect a crapton of ridiculousness.
Other than that, I'm not totally into SUPER HUEG BEWBS or anything. Just normal size is fine. I'm more of a midriff kind of guy (see: Yumekui Merry).

As long as it's not ridiculously oversized, such as Cattleya from Queen's Blade (how the heck does she stand, let alone forge weapons with those things in her way!?!?), or Shizuka from High School of the Dead, I generally don't mind it.
Sure, they're nice to look at, but if they draw too much attention to themselves, it kind of detracts from the show for me.

Cattleya is one of the few huge breasted anime characters that looks like she has a back strong enough to support the weight she is carrying up front.

Eiken went over the top for me but generally I don't mind. It seemed weird in Divergence Eve at first but I got used to it quickly.

It's amusing at times but mostly it's just annoying o.o I mean, large breasts can be murder on one's back! I can only imagine what those poor girls are going through on a day to day basis...

I wondered the same thing about super long hair that many anime females have. Find a woman with waist-length hair and ask her what a pain it is to maintain. Now ask her to imagine it was down to her ankles...or even longer.
