I was debating whether this should would be 8/10 or higher, but once he saved the day, it instantly became 11/10 and one the best endings ever Really? lol The fact that he was able to fix everything made the show a 7.5/10. I preferred a darker ending. |

Really? lol The fact that he was able to fix everything made the show a 7.5/10. I preferred a darker ending. No way. the way the series was going it was a dark series for like 6-7 straight episodes, the show having a dark streak and ending would not have been good. People were anticipating a good ending, not a dark ending. If perhaps the show took a different turn, say him trying to fix the problem in the last 3 episodes and failing, maybe that would be different. And having a dark ending for such innocent characters would not have gone well. Generally when main characters fail its because they are evil. I'm sure in some way if you tweak the story, a dark and failure ending would be appropriate, but the way the story was going it was good the way it ended, and extremely satisfying |

I'm sure in some way if you tweak the story, a dark and failure ending would be appropriate, but the way the story was going it was good the way it ended, and extremely satisfying I thought Steins;Gate was dark throughout the entire series. It seemed out of place for a happy ending where Okabe creates a perfect world. One of the important themes in Steins;Gate was playing God. Usually, when a character takes on the role of god (Frankenstein, Death Note, Code Geass) the character has to suffer the consequences. Okabe clearly crosses boundaries that he should not cross. He's made so many changes and changed so many lives that for him to go back to his original timeline AND save both Makise Kurisu and Mayuri seemed too good. There was also the concept of fate in Steins;Gate--while 90% of the story seemed to point out that it's impossible to change your fate, the ending was just like: oh never mind you can actually change your fate. So that threw me off. The happy ending didn't sit well with me, although I understand why it would seem cruel to kill off the lovable characters. |

Until official word came from the director I was debating with a friend whether Lulu lived or died. He died. It was a sad, sad day for me.. |

NONE!!!! T.T SUCH GREAT ANIMES!!!
Mine was the Card Fight-Vanguard, Season 1. After 3 days of all nighters, the ending allowed me to get my hours back but seeing the ending of a really good Anime is just the saddest ever. Such an empty existence thereafter : ( |

I think you should have put a spoiler tag for the answer whether he lived or died. Anyway, I think our opinions differ on that though. Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide I believe the death of Lelouch was the thing that made the anime beautiful. I've debated on this with my friend, heartwings already. She's on the same side as you more or less. We were both moved to tears by the ending. The reason why I cried for Lelouch was because I truly understood the meaning of his sacrifice. It was so sad how he placed all the world's evil on him and people will remember him for that as long as he lives. That kind of burden was just too much. It brings up the question "Has Lelouch not suffered enough?" But this tragic beauty is what made us remember him until now. |
