Tragedy should be its own genre, I hate going through an Action or Romance series only to find out the main character dies at the end, If Id known that at first, I most likely wouldn't have bothered watching it. What's your opinion on shows with tragic endings ? Does anyone like them and if so why ? I personally can't stand them, I don't watch anime to feel sad.

Happy endings are cliche because they are effective lol. I don't have a problem with sad endings in general just ones when the main character dies q.q

I like tragic endings, they let me know that the anime is completly done. Whereas happy endings make me wonder if there will be another season!

Ding ding ding. We have a winner!

I personally like tragic anime too. Like someone said, they're is usually more finality with a tragic ending and sometimes that is more rewarding than watching everything end happily. Of course, I like happy endings too but they're not always realistic and they do get old.

A few recommendations (maybe not all of them are tragic but they're certainly not 'happy ever after':

Personally, I hate happy endings, more often then not there boring even when they manage to make it original. A tragic ending on the other hand is often at least somewhat unique as well as providing a more final ending or if done right a better open-ended ending. But most of all the reason I prefer sad/tragic is because it will always provide a more emotional ending that can trump even the best happy endings making a series far more memorable.

But I do agree that tragedy should have its own genre, as I do like to know what I'm getting in to at the start as well as making it easier to find one when I'm in the mood for a tragedy.

Well I'd call it Sci-Fi/Psychological/Drama/Horror(?) but I like yours better sums it up nicely.

I think they should add a zombie genre, because lately more and more zombie anime are coming out. And, last I've seen, they have vampire as it's own separate genre, so all the more reason.
