I know alot of us are old school Toonami fans and I have been trying to find the series or season of Tenchi Muyo that it used to play on t.v.
I do believe I found it but it was going for about $600.00?? Is that right? Also there is Tenchi Muyo Ryu-Ohki series but is that the original Tenchi Muyo that was on Toonami or no?

not sure about the price
but the Tenchi shows I think aired on Toonami was Tenchi Universe followed by Tenchi in Tokyo
now I want to go back and re-watch this lol

I searched it up because I wasn't sure about Ryu-Ohki (been a long time) and it said that that was an OVA series
it was later adapted into Tenchi Universe

No the one that originally aired on CN is Tenchi Muyo - OVA. And yes the OVA has been out of print for many years (it was a Geneon title). I've seen the pricing on Amazon and that's due to it being OOP and no one with the license right now.

The rest of the series goes with Tenchi TV (or what others call Universe) (different timeline), then Tenchi in Tokyo (which sucked), 3 movies, GXP which is loosely tied to the TV timeline. and Ryo Ohki which continues the OVA timeline.

Yeah.. I take it for granted how those things are OOP now as I own everything but Tokyo (god that was awful..) My nephew wanted to buy the same thing and was shocked at the pricing and kept bugging me to let him borrow it (I don't lend out my stuff LOL). There was another re-release (I believe 4 singles) that had the OVA broken up into chapters (my release with Ryoko in the front only has chapter skips and not segment skips like you would for a TV series) but that priced together still equals over 500 bucks on Amazon.

The OVA does finish in a recently released copy of Tenchi Muyo RyoOhki. It's newer animation but it's the same timeline as the OVA (granted 10 years later from the original release) and it's computer graphics rather than hand drawn like the original. I'm rather partial to the original storyline with Ryoko being the daughter of Washu so it was a treat to watch. I bought that as it came out and I believe there is a save edition of it now as well. But yeah.. good luck with the original OVA. I don't believe anyone will ever re release that again. Which is a shame. I love that series.

it goes:
Ryo-Ohki, Universe, Tokyo, GXP (only in terms of time of release)

1 - Ryo-Ohki is an OVA by itself
2 - Universe is based off of the OVA and expanded into its own new show
3 - Tokyo is an alternative universe/timeline to the Universe series, same main characters but different events
4 - GXP is a spin-off with different characters and occurs parallel with the events of Ryo-Ohki apparently (I had to look that one up lol)

the movies are included in the Universe timeline but I'm not sure where they should be placed

Think of it this way.

1. Tenchi Muyo (Ryoko is in the cave.. not Washu). THIS was the original series and that's called Tenchi Muyo OVA. it was 13 episodes and CN started with that one (remember where Washu declared she was going to single handedly kill Kagato for killing Tenchi and in the process she found her mother on the ship) This series came out in 1992 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tenchi_Muyo!
2. Tenchi TV (also known as Universe) - Washu is in the cave, Ayeka purposely stays on Earth then gallavants across the Universe to save her reputation and clear her name. This series also spawned 2 movies and 1 special (Mihoshi special) - Pretty Sammy is also tied to this series
3 Tenchi in Tokyo - it's own story and the other characters are periphery only. 3rd movie was tied to this series.
4. Tenchi Muyo: RyoOhki - Continuation of the OVA with modern graphics and elements pulled from GXP (although the timeline really belonged to TV but hey it's Tenchi so who cares).

CN starting airing the OVA in 2000.

It's a shame you know it's such a good series plus it's one I the first series I started to watch. I don't think I'm gonna be able to get it unfortunately but I will continue with the ryu ohki addition though

My hope in the future is that some of the Geneon/Pioneer collections find a new home. They were awesome shows even if they are a bit old now. I have a running list of those I want from that collection but I suspect I'll never own it because I refuse to buy it with the inflated fan prices in Amazon.

Be prepared though for how different Ryo-Ohki is. And I'm not talking about the new voice actress for Ryoko either. It's computer so it's different and it pulls a LOT from GXP. Once you can handle that you can still get what they were going for. And it is the continuation of OVA which is something we wanted for 10 years LOL

Funimation Entertainment has the license for the OVAs at the moment, so a re-release is probably in the cards, knowing them.

Hope that eases your pain.

Unfortunately they have no interest in doing that and have gone on record that they are not releasing any more Geneon titles. The only stuff they released is already released in save editions. Save editions only come out at the last year of their licensing contract.

That bit of information I did not remember.

However, if you have a Funimation "Elite Video Subscription" they are streaming some of episodes on their website right now, but it will only work inside the US/Canada.

It's subbed by the way:

I'm not entirely sure, but I think Netflix might have what you're looking for. If not, then I don't know what to tell ya.
