I'm not entirely sure, but I think Netflix might have what you're looking for. If not, then I don't know what to tell ya. :(

Just read the description that might be the OVA im looking for from reading the description. Definitely going to look into and finally Netflix has updated the shows even if its just a little bit haha

My hope in the future is that some of the Geneon/Pioneer collections find a new home. They were awesome shows even if they are a bit old now. I have a running list of those I want from that collection but I suspect I'll never own it because I refuse to buy it with the inflated fan prices in Amazon.

Be prepared though for how different Ryo-Ohki is. And I'm not talking about the new voice actress for Ryoko either. It's computer so it's different and it pulls a LOT from GXP. Once you can handle that you can still get what they were going for. And it is the continuation of OVA which is something we wanted for 10 years LOL

Wow it sounds like they have really re-done everything. Were you able to conform and enjoy the new features of the extended OVA?

Funimation Entertainment has the license for the OVAs at the moment, so a re-release is probably in the cards, knowing them.

Hope that eases your pain.

Unfortunately they have no interest in doing that and have gone on record that they are not releasing any more Geneon titles. The only stuff they released is already released in save editions. Save editions only come out at the last year of their licensing contract.

Sad but a great piece of information to know about the S.A.V.E. Editions

Yes I liked the OVA extension despite the contrast in production. The story literally continues right after the events of the 13th episode of the original OVA. What's interesting is that they redo episode 1 of the OVA (for new fans I"m sure) with the new voice of Ryoko (Japanese and English) so it takes.. a bit getting used to. But, I do like it and consider it part of the series as that's my favorite story arc.

Yeah ANN has had Funimation over a few times on their podcasts (ANNCast) and they explained what their "SAVE" Edition is. It's basically the last way they can make money off the series and goes into effect the last year of their contract. It's a barebones all inclusive series that's bargain priced. No extras or anything. Given that the only thing they have listed was GXP and RyoOhki I doubt they ever had the OVA, movies, Universe or Tokyo. I haven't seen any of those for sale in quite a number of years.

Um...no.

I'm not sure what exactly you mean by "they redo episode 1 of the OVA". Ryoko did get recasted for the english dub of OVA 3 because her old voice was unavaliable or had retired (I can't quite remember exactly what happened). But they never went back and redid anything. OVA 3 has only been dubbed once, by FUNimation, with this new voice for Ryoko.

Also, FUNi did pick up the first two OVAs, Movies, Universe, and Tokyo back in 2010 (along with Hellsing TV, Ai Yori Aoshi, Lain, and afew other Geneon titles), but they haven't been released yet. FUNi has finally started releasing some of those Geneon shows (and they also just started streaming Tenchi OVA 1 on their site), so Tenchi re-releases could happen by the end of the year, or possibly early next year. The reason for the huge delay was a company merger in Japan between Geneon and Universal Japan. Lots of corporate mumbo-jumbo and reorganization and stuff like that.

Since FUNimation already has OVA 3, GXP and Magical Girl Club, they now own all of Tenchi Muyo except Magical Project S (which was only subbed and not likely to get picked up by them), and the recent OVA series Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari. So, don't bother paying several hundred dollars for Geneon USA's old sets. Just wait afew months for FUNimations sets to come out.

From this forum thread on Funimation's website:

Funimation has the acquired the license for OVAs 1 & 2, Tenchi Universe, Tenchi in Tokyo, and All three Tenchi Movies but issues from Geneon Universal have prevented them from releasing them just yet. Funimation has not acquired the rights to The Mihoshi Special, Magical Girl Pretty Sammy or Magical Project S and there's been no news on them being picked up anytime soon.

That's news to me thanks! The last 2 ANN interviews with Funimation (one as recent as last month) said they weren't going to release any more Geneon stuff simply because they didn't have the materials. That was a long list and in the interviews they went one by one and said the OVA wasn't one of them. Hmm.. I guess wait and see (and yes I echo.. don't pay that money in Amazon). As for redo I still stand by it. They took an unmastered version of episode 1 where Tenchi meets Ryoko on the rooftop for the first time and redubbed the whole thing with the new Ryoko. I have to fast forward it when I watch it since I have the original voice memorized. No offense to not having the original given the age of the show.. just that scene sounds differently in my head The rest of it is fine as it's not redoing anything from the original but continuing the story. I'd recommend getting it while we all wait for a rerelease of the OVA if it indeed pans out and Japan sent the masters over. I know my nephew who wants it for himself will be most pleased! (and he can stop coveting my Pioneer copy)

Funi does really good with pricing. Especially if it's only going to be a save edition I don't see why it wouldn't be similarly priced. They might actually have more than just one chapter skip on the OVA unlike the Pioneer version I have I hope when they get it it's good enough quality to match or even surpass the Pioneer release. I cringed with the quality of that one Ryoko scene that they redubbed on RyoOhki (OVA 3). I know I plan to buy the re release when/if it comes out. I have a list of people who want it

Does Ryoko even sound remotely the same? :tears:
This is almost like a bitter sweet deal...they may re-release our hopes and dreams yet it will be different. What was the cause for Pioneer leaving the industry or merging with Geneon anyway?

The entire OVA series (1,2 & 3) were called Ryo-Ohki in Japan. But in the US, Geneon (who used to be called Pioneer, it was just a name change) released OVAs 1 & 2 together as just "Tenchi Muyo". When FUNi released OVA 3 they called it Tenchi Muyo Ryo-Ohki to differentiate it from Geneon's release. So, its all called Ryo-Ohki in Japan but only OVA 3 was called that in the US. Its very confusing.

Ok got it now that is a bit confusing with the changes. But all in all as long as you dont get the same thing twice your gettin a piece of Tenchi no matter what regardless of the time line. Well time to spend more money to continue the Ryu-Ohki series

Thanks Puts it quite succinctly. The pioneer copy

Is the one that you wanted and we are all waiting for Funi to rerelease it. THIS was "OVA 1 & 2" and yes it's what you mentioned before with Kagato.. but TV and OVA deals with him very differently. TV (also known as Universe) he was the main guy all the way to the end.. in the original he was defeated by Tenchi in like episode 5 and then the rest of that was with Zero and Dr. Clay.

Here's the episode list of the OVA to give you an idea of what it looks like and why it was broken up this way:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Tenchi_Muyo!_Ryo-Ohki_episodes
When you see Episode 14.. that's the "new" one that's labeled Ryo Ohki on Funi's site and is currently available. Hope that helps!

Universe (or what I call Tenchi TV) was also on Cartoon network but had a alternate take on the story - particularly Washy and Ryoko's non-relationship.

I'm just so happy it's even going to be released or even discussed!

YEESS! This is what im talking about and what everyone is waiting for lol 13 episodes of gold just waiting to be bought up.........when the price drops
Ya I never really knew why Washu and Ryoko were never as close as the show tried to make it seem. I dont remember Kagato being in TV (Universe) for some reason I just remember it was primarily in space for the most if I remember correctly?
