This is my entry ^^ I'm extremely proud of it. It took me many hours to draw and get everything just right. I didn't have anything I could color it with, and I usually think black and white tends to be more beautiful because it shows the originality and stuff. I would love to win anything ^^;; Sakamichi no Apollon is one of my most favorite animes ever, I absolutely love it~ Hope you guys like it \(*o*)/

This reminds me of my original idea of having Sentaro hitting Kaoru on the head with his drumsticks. Kaoru, of course, would be none too thrilled. I like your pic (and all of the entries have been awesome. It's fun to see the different ideas people get for the same [awesome] anime).

This is my cover for Kids on the Slope. I was inspired by John Coltrane's "My Favorite Things" album cover. I wanted the cover to be reminiscent of Coltrane's but still retain it's own uniqueness. (And have the colors evoke the slope, ocean, and sky.) I used a 0.7 pencil to draw and shade Kaoru, Sen, and Ritsuko. I did this to add a subdued palate and to prevent them from clashing with the background. I was also inspired by "Lullaby of Birdland" which is in the upper right corner. My entry is surrounded by my various albums ("The Sound of Music" can be seen in the bottom right corner.)

Hugs all

I did an earlier cover as an example about how to use all kinds of images and techniques to create something unique to inspire those of you who maybe hesitant to explore your creative potential.

The following cover I did for myself. I wanted to give the song Lullaby of Birdland some historical context and beauty. Lullaby of Birdland is repeated in the opening theme of Kids on the Slope. Lullaby of Birdland is also referenced in episode 5 in a Chris Connor recording. Birdland is a synonym for Yardbird, which is the nickname for jazz legend, Charlie Parker and the jazz club in New York that was named after him. Bird or Ornithology is a style of bebop jazz created by Charlie Parker. In jazz lingo, bird is also a synonym for beautiful lady, chick, babe, doll and freestyle jamming. Many jazz legends did live recordings at Birdland including Art Blakey (Kaoru's introduction to jazz), John Coltrane, Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis and others.
