Back in middle school and high school I got my mom to watch Chrono Crusade and RomeoxJuliet with me. She liked them both. She doesn't really mind anime at all and likes watching it with me, but it isn't something she would watch on her own.

Be careful. Your parent may never see you the same way again.

When showed my parents movies like "Spirited Away" and other Studio Ghibli films. They like them.

However, for my next birthday, they got me an anime series called "Figure 17", about a little grade school girl who turns into adult woman to fight aliens.

No Mom, there are many types of anime.

Nope

My dad won't even let me mention it to him. My mum listens to me at least and sometimes asks me questions about what I'm watching, but it's my auntie that takes the most interest. She doesn't really watch any, but she seems to generally care.

As for my brother... anime is 'gay', 'wierd' and 'the worst thing in the world'

But I've got my anime friends at school, so I don't really mind

I thought I could get my mom (she's almost 70) to enjoy Bunny Drop, the NIS America release of which arrived in the mail a few weeks ago now. She's helping us with our newborn son, and so I thought an anime about parenting and family would be a particularly fitting introduction. However, she couldn't even sit through the first episode before going off to do something else! Oh well...

My mom did ask me a bit about Bunny Drop later, though. The funny and rather uncanny thing is that after briefly describing the series (e.g. mentioning main characters, initial set up, and themes), she spontaneously said something like
referring to Daikichi and Rin! To my wife's and my surprised looks and confirmatory response, she said "well of course! It can happen!" I don't know how she automatically and so quickly came to that conclusion!

Hahahahahahahahahaha, this is the funniest thing ever. My parents thinks my brother and I playing video games are immature and a waist of time. When I do watch anime my dad thinks I am watching cartoon porn, and now my brother does not watch anime with my parents around. It is just a generational gap thing and a total lack of understanding with a little him thinking all anime is porn.

I introduced mine using Clannad then Spice and Wolf. Worked well, they tend to watch anything not too childish if it's anime on Netflix or Hulu.

LOL I watch it all the time with my daughter. I got her into it now she is adicted to it like I am and I'm working on my son now. They get soiled all the time with anything anime or manga related. As of right now I have 5 box sets of Bleach in root to my house for my daoughter and I'm about to buy some Pokemon box sets for my son for his birthday. LOL I'm working on Prince of tennis and Bakuman for myself.
