No sure about the nightlife, because we started each day around 7am, and by 10pm we were ready to hit the hay. I hear Roppongi Hills in Tokyo has a pretty good nightlife with clubs.

Tokyo -> awesome fun
Kyoto -> awesome fun
Hakone -> NOTHING to do after 4pm in the afternoon. Daytime: mountains, black eggs, cable cars, Lake Ashi.
Hiroshima -> Seemed like there were a lot of bars, but didn't hit any up
Miyajima -> cool day trip when in Hiroshima.

The Gas Panic is ok in Roppongi therefore the problem with Roppongi is that all foreigners an hanging there and most but not all Japanese girls hits Ropping to find a "gaijin" i then spare you all the guys trying to get you into stripclubs or girls asking you for massage.

More "local" clubs are actually more fun and authentic. Club asia, eggman in Shibuya amongst other clubs are nice places to hang out.

Overall Nightlife in Tokyo is pretty terrific therefore if you don't have a bit of japanese proficiency that will quickly become more difficult to go to some places.

Well I suggest you get to know someone before going there to guide you. Going there is really up to you and if you really want to go

There is always a first time.

At the time i went there for the first time i had no japanese proficiency and it was hard but, if you are a little adventurous it is a fun experience anyway.

Japan has a lot to offer and this is such an amazing country wether it is for sightseeing or for discovering the culture.

Moreover despite the fact it is a little hard and japanese people could be a little ackwards intearcting with a "foreigner" there is still that willingness to help and respect of the other which is typical of the culture and this is a big plus when you come the first time.

cheers

Japan is a very safe and friendly country for foreigners and residences alike. Violent crimes against foreigners are EXTREMELY rare, even in Okinawa where there is a big of hostility towards foreigners due to the military presences in the area.

Very cultural, lots of famous cities and landscapes to check out. In Tokyo you can go to the Tokyo Tower which is amazing! Don't forget to check out the Tokyo Big Sight along with some shrines like the Hanazono Jinja or the Asakusa shrine. Going downtown in Tokyo can be a thrill all of its own. It's basically where old and modern Japan collide. Tokyo is a spended place. If you'd like to take a trip to Kyoto this could also be quite fun. Many shrines many things to do and see. Great food also, be sure to try some of the dishes if you do get tempted to go because its something you won't regret doing.

theirs a game that's called "go go nippon". A Multi-language visual novel game that has the popular sightseeing attraction. Weather it's old famous castle or new anime district region (akiba i think it's called). It even give a little tour about the luxury of food and their cultures (like a large pizza is nothing more than a medium).

I suggest that you don't go to a populated area like Tokyo, the food price and rooms are so expensive there.

Go wherever you want to go.

Yup this.

We shouldn't convince you, convince yourself.
Make a list of the countries you want to go then play some random game that will make the decision for you (don't know the English names for these games, I mean like head or toe) and if the winning country disappoints you and you thought oh damn but I wanted to go to (country) ! Then go to the one you really wanted. Ze world ies open to you, explore it.
