You aren't supposed to pour your own osake, your drinking buddies are supposed to pour for you. You pour for them. Plan on taking a taxi or subway home or walk... Best thing about being in Tokyo was not needing a car, party time til 6am at sakaya!

Prefer tsumetai karakuchi osake. I like Kirin, Asahi, Sapporo biru too and whisky... Scotch or Yoichi and Yamazaki.

...and sake bottles are big for a reason! A good drink to you sir!

Might as well tell a story while I'm at it.

My first time drunk was 3 years ago. I had a glass of wine, 2 wine coolers, 5 mixed drinks, 2 small bottles of sake, at least 5 shots of a liquor I don't remember, 2 beers, 2 jaegerbombs, and a shot of gin that triggered my chain-puking. I also won a game of king's cup, but the stuff there actually tasted good. I blacked out for 3 hours. I had a 24-hour hangover that was so severe, every little bump on the road felt like a stomach-ripping roller coaster ride. I was severely nauseous the entire day.

I LOVE:
-Sake
-Absinthe
-Dark wines
-Rum
-Most mixed drinks

I'm okay with:
-Light wines
-Whisky
-Brandy
-Vodka

I hate:
-Beer
-Tequila
-Anything with cranberry or cherry flavoring

lol, yeah the hot Sake was new to me too the first time. but then i saw how much the cold stuff was and said... EFF THAT, give me the hot and some crappy Sapporo brand beer all night long!!! I'd rather get wasted for cheap than really really wasted and regret how much I spent in the morning.

Yeah, when I go to a nice Japanese restaurant for sushi (I'm a sushi fiend) and look at the sake prices, it'll basically cost an arm and a leg.

Speaking of getting wasted for cheap, I don't think there's a better way to get wasted for cheap than going to a college bar. Sure they're seedy and can be filled with some really annoying college kids, but their prices can't be beat. I remember on some nights back when I was still in uni being able to get a huge Long Island Iced Tea for like 2 or 3 bucks.

I buy sake by the bottle at the Japanese Marketplace in Edgewater NJ. It's not all that expensive, decent sake is about the same cost as decent wine.

Someone mentioned about hot sake.... I tend to get Dry sakes that are can be served cold (refrigerated) and have excellent flavor. :)
Some of them are as smooth as water, and hit you hard later on.

Shot glasses are small for a reason as well, but real drunks still chug the whiskey straight from the flask.

I usually start with a stiff drink or two and then move on to shots to maintain that 'just right' level of intoxication between buzzed and drunk. It's all about pacing yourself. Respect the bottle!

Most excellent!

Baileys, sad to say, has gotten so overpriced in the last 3 years I have to opt for a lesser % content Irish creme and different brand name. As for sake I've never had the pleasure or heartbreak. But all of the above, especially the Irish creme....most excellent.
