my memory is terrible. if i meet someone new, it would take a month just to remember the persons name. even if its a long time friend, i would forget. sometimes remembering what i did yesterday takes a while too. but on some days i can remember things that i had forgotten about. ~ :3 ah those days are nice ~

My memories a douchebag, it only remembers things it wants to.
...Ok almost everyone's is like that I guess. Point is, I can't give an accurate rating of my memory, capturing and remembering things, even the slightest most insignificant detail, that are of key interest to my daydreaming purposes, it's top notch. Get me to remember a string of four numbers or more and it falls flat on its arse...well, figuratively speaking. |

I'm terrible with names, unless I actually make an effort to keep saying it and associating it with something.
So when I meet someone new, I might come across as clingy and desperate for friendship--not the case, I'm just trying to add your name to the database!! ;D |

Not sure.

Completely horrible when it comes to everyday things like chores and etc. I remind myself to do something after a task (sometimes as short as 2 minutes) and 9 times out of 10, I forget to do it.

I don't even bother using my memory anymore, it's so bad. I literally have to write down everything.

Oops, see even then, sometimes that doesn't work. |

Woodayy55 wrote: Granted i'm only 17 i think i should have a way better memory than i do now. I can't seem to remember little stuff either. Like my mom will tell me something and late i just won't remember it and same thing went for school. How do your guys memory compare? Also anything you do to improve it or just test it? It seems you're pretty serious about this. So, I brought up some of the lifehacker articles that really helped me with my terrible memory. You see, I have a severe case of ADOS(http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=ADOS&defid=3920300) and that can really strain my various relationships. In search of help, I started taking some steps to figure things out. There is an importance to being cut off from the rest of the world and just meditating or praying or what have you (http://lifehacker.com/5924792/meditation-can-improve-your-memory-focus-and-productivity-at-work). Meditation has been found to reduce stress, improve memory, and increase how many tasks you can take on at a time according to a University of Washington study (http://faculty.washington.edu/wobbrock/pubs/gi-12.02.pdf). I'm not here to push any particular faith but even an atheist should be able to just stop and think about nature and their place in it. The New Your Times put out an article titled "SECRETS OF A MIND-GAMER" (http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2011/02/20/magazine/mind-secrets.html?ref=science). In this article, it talks about laying out a "memory palace" for yourself and using your spatial memory to recall non-spatial information. Lifehacker covered the article and summarized it quite nicely (http://lifehacker.com/5763365/drastically-improve-your-memory-by-building-a-memory-palace). Lifehacker also covered a similar technique called "Memory Foraging" in this article (http://lifehacker.com/5885293/improve-your-memory-by-using-memory-foraging-strategies). One of the little tricks that I learned was to make the stuff I was bringing into my head vivid. This means a walk through the vivid forest. I found that, after reading "Blah Blah Blah: What To Do When Words Don't Work" by Dan Roam (http://amzn.com/B005GSZZFG), my recall immediately improved because I wasn't thinking about just words or just pictures. I was thinking both. It made it much easier to remember some really important stuff (like my wife's birthday ).I hope this helps. EDIT: I almost forgot (pun intended). What you eat makes a difference, too. In particular, high fructose corn syrup is bad for your memory (http://www.abcactionnews.com/dpp/news/health/UCLA-study-finds-high-fructose-corn-syrup-dumbs-brain-down-hurts-memory-learning-ability). To recap: less sweets; more fish. |
