I remember watching Speed Racer when I was a kid, but no knowing it was "anime".

But my first introduction to anime was "Gall Force: Eternal Story" which aired on SciFi (SyFy) when I was a kid. Even though, I still did not know what "anime" was, I remember watching Gall Force and learning that this wasn't an ordinary "cartoon" - that there's something more going on. And then the ending to "Gall Force: Eternal Story" completely blew my mind and I realized that there was animation that went beyond children's cartoons.

After Gall Force, I watched "Akira" then "Ghost in the Shell" as they aired on SciFi, both of which proved to me that not all animation was silly cartoons, that animation was also being used to tell very mature and sophisticated stories. But then I saw "La Blue Girl" on tv and was fundamentally traumatized...

Fortunately, years later, I saw "Sailor Moon" on tv, and my life would never be the same. Despite seeing "Akira" and "Ghost in the Shell" earlier, I consider "Sailor Moon" my "gateway" anime because that was when I became an Otaku.

From Sailor Moon, I went to Dragon Ball Z, to Ranma 1/2, to Blue Seed, to Fushigi Yuugi (the first subtitled anime I bought), to Lain, to Eva, to Gundam, to Cowboy Bebop, to Utena, and the rest is Otaku history!

The first one for me was probably Pokemon, but t first one that i knew was called an ''anime'' was death note.

Pokemon originally but the first proper anime was Naruto. I Stumbled on it by mistake one day and i was introduced to the world anime

3x3 Eyes, played over 4 Saturday evenings on Channel 4 sometime in the mid 90's.

First proper, full series would be FMP!

first time on tv - Bayblade or Digimon , watched everyday when waking up to kindergarden.
but if seriously first anime what made me love anime is ''Naruto'' , though i never completed it. ;D
