My first anime I saw long before I knew what anime was. My first one was the Lil' Bits. Also, The Noozles. Couldn't tell ya which came first, because I was like... 4.

Of course I saw DBZ and Gundam Wing on Toonami. But the first anime I bought, my first "real" anime, was Serial Experiments: Lain. And it's still my favorite.

On my 10th birthday me and my friends stayed up and secretly tuned into adult swim. Yu Yu Hakusho was on. So happens my mom walked out as soon as Yusuke did one of his famous cursing lines. Thankfully she was forgiving that night XD

Hmm, I if I try to remember...

I watched Hamtaro and Transformers quite a lot when I was little.
Pokemon, Dragoball Z, and Naruto are also up there. So was Spirited Away.

Can't remember between those 5.

Though, the one that I actually watched every single episode of from beginning to end?
Either Sonic X or Elfen Lied.

Pokemon. But my very first anime where I actually knew what is was, is Ouran High School Host Club. It shall forever hold a place in my heart. So yeah, that was my gateway anime.

Sailor Moon! I was only five, I had the backpack, lunch box , and I had all the dolls of the original sailor scouts. I wish I still had the dolls...

This was waaaaaaay back in the nineties, but I'd say that my first anime would be Sailor Moon. Serena/Usagi was the first heroine I related too, and SM was also the first franchise I got merch for.

Another one would be Pokemon, which is also very likely, because it came out some time after I was born. While Sailor Moon pre-dates me by a year.

Way back before I knew what anime was, I was absolutely in love with Sailor Moon! Now that I'm older, I've gone back and started to watch it over again. I love the feeling of nostalgia~
