Well I didn't really watch it as a series, I just watched it whenever it was on and that would be Inuyasha

For me, that would be Elfen Lied. It was quite the brutal start to watching anime but I'm actually glad I watched it because I wouldn't have ended up being such an otaku if I didn't.

Either Pokemon or Digimon, back when I was four or five, though I didn't know what anime was back then. The first anime I watched understanding that it was Japanese was Neon Genisis Evangelion when I was eleven. The first anime I watched in Japanese was Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu.

I was also watching Hayao Miyazaki's movies since I was a kid.

I dunno. The first I ever saw was probably Speed Racer, Robotech or Dragonball Z.

The first I ever actively watched, though? I'd say probably Iria: Zeiram the Animation.

Okay, then we have to go back to the early 80's here.
Not sure which was my first, and back then I didn't know it was anime either.
But I guess one of these must have been my first: Star Blazers/Space Battleship Yamato, Voltron, Mazinger Z or Swan Lake.
If I remember correctly I think Star Blazers was possible to rent on video here in Norway.
Swan Lake I have/had a copy of on VHS with Swedish dub.
Voltron and Mazinger Z I remember watching on The Children's Channel on the satellite dish.

There have probably been a few others from back then I have forgotten. But not easy to hunt for those, when you only have a vague memory of them.

I had the absolute worst possible entrance into Anime.

As a kid ('93), I watched Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon, Mobile Suit Gundam 00, and a few others like Yu-Yu Hakusho. They we're the coolest shows ever to a 7 year old kid wanting a giant robot of my own, or to shoot energy beams from my finger like a gun. I continued watching "Cartoons" up until 2003 (Toonami) when I decided to use the, showing my age here, World Wide Web to find another Giant Robot show like Gundam.

"Shows like Mobile Suit Gundam" on Google. I have never had a more jarring entry into anything ever.

Neon Genesis Evangelion

My first foray into anime... Was NGE. Let that sink in for a moment.
As a 11 year old kid, my first "anime" was Neon Genesis Evangelion, watched to completion.

I immediately gave up on anime for 7 years, only to come back to it with... Cowboy Bebop.

If not for Bebop, I don't think I would've ever come back. Now that I can "understand" NGE, I actually like it; But for a 11 year old kid, Damn did I ever wish I hadn't seen it.

Sailor Moon. I thought that if I believed and my heart was pure, a talking cat would reveal my magical destiny to me. Fml

I was probably 11 or 12 and over at my older brother's house. They had a few friends over and to keep me entertained they put on a VHS of Ranma 1/2 and then the first Urusei Yatsura movie. Later on, that Christmas, they got me a Dragon Ball VHS.

Those are the earliest anime memories I have.

sailor moon.

I watched it since I was very little like since I was 5. I watched it with Cambodian dub as well. I remember it quite clearly, at the beginning of each episode, she always say, "This year I'm 14 years old" or something like that.

Then at around 12 years old, while the world was making a fuss over 9/11, I was watching Sailor moon in English dub...

I believe it was Tatsunoko's classic anime, Gatchaman.

It would be either Speed Racer or Robotech. I was glued to both of them as a kid.

Think it was sailor moon, but back then I was horny five year old that only cared about the girls in skimpy school uniforms, so Sailor Moon was the only show on my mind. It might have been Dragon Ball or Yu Yu Hakusho.
