The patched helped out a lot.

1) I still get desynching problems every 6 or 7 episodes. Logging out and logging back on after about 30 minutes seems to fix this.
2) Parts in the video, namely around the middle have a tendency to freeze, rewinding back a few seconds also seems to fix this, for the most part
3) The fast forward and rewind buttons on the R2 and L2 buttons are not fixed, they should be place on the direction pad or the analogue sticks, I have no way to safely put down my controller without it fast forwarding or rewinding randomly.

Its now watchable for me, but these problems are very inconvenient and I have better ways to watch anime, I just thought it would be nice to watch it legally for once.

alrighty after the patch I'm experiencing more video skipping, app crashes when switching videos with R1/L1 repeatedly, when countdown to the next video page showed up it looked like scrambled porn (best way I could think to describe it) and just a few minutes ago if just closed on my after watching 2 videos

what I haven'[t experienced so far are sudden drops in video quality, freezes, and sound syncing problems. so some problems fixed others not so much but its getting better keep up the good work.

I would expect that when apps finally begin to offer HD, they will obey the same Default Video Quality setting that the browser currently does. While some would no doubt prefer individual settings for each device, I suspect that would be more of a backburner issue for Crunchyroll.

Just throwing this out there, I tried the app for the first time yesterday and was met with alot of issues as I described in an earlier post, today I got the idea to just use the PS3's web browser since they claimed to have upgraded it and it worked better.

Sure enough Crunchyroll works alot better streamed through the browser than the app, so if anyone out there is stuck using the PS3 app because they dont wanna use their PC then I would suggest giving the browser version a try.

We're not very serious PS3 users - primarily got it for its BluRay player.
We were delighted to see CR was finally going to release a dedicated app for the PS3 as trying to watch through the PS3 web browser was excruciating. Finally found it in the PS3 store (not easy to find and the store Search was no help), installed it and the patch tonight. (Definitely need to get a Bluetooth keyboard & mouse for the PS3...our peepers are too old for this on-screen keyboard garbage.)
We have not seen any apocalyptic PS3-frying issues with the CR app as others have.

We poked around in the application for a couple of hours, checking out some shows we haven't watched yet on our computers.

- We noticed some video freezes where the audio kept going, and a couple of times the video skipped forward with no audio or subtitles. "Rewinding" and playing over the video-freeze sections again showed freezes in the same spots, so it may be a caching issue. Will have to watch the same shows again tomorrow to see if it happens in the same places.

- Several times during each show the "controller panel" (for lack of a better term - shows progress and what controller buttons control FF, Rwd, etc) drops down from the top of the screen. We were not touching the controller at the times this happened.

- While exploring, I selected More Options (the square button if I recall correctly) and the screen simply went black. We waited about 5 minutes but nothing ever came up. I finally power-cycled the PS3, the CR app came up again with no problem and we watched some more content but did not click the More Options item again.

This is a recent-model PS3 (a "slim", I guess), wired into our gigabit ethernet network, FiOS 25/10. The only other streaming content we've tried on the PS3 is through the Amazon app and it worked fine (thought its GUI needs some serious work...)

It would have been nice if CR could have done a public beta test first; sign up a limited number of people that already had premium memberships (so no laments of "30 day free trial going to waste"), and iron out any bugs there, expanding the beta as fewer bugs were found, and then going public. That said, for all I know, there may be something in Sony's terms of service that prevented them from doing it that way.

They say hindsight is 20/20 but those are pretty much my thoughts exactly. Unfortunately Bjaker said that none of the problems we are experiencing started happening until the service went live. As far as a beta is concerned I doubt Sony would get in the way of it. They do it for games all the time and sometimes even tie it in with their Playstation Home service so it ends up being win-win.

That is the sad truth unfortunately. The whole point of this app was to rid ourselves of the now seemingly minute problems the browser had playing videos. No 720p or 1080p on the browser. This is why we clamored for the app. They say you don't look a gift horse in the mouth and that's basically what most of the people here are avoiding so it isn't surprising it took this long for this to come up. It feels like a bit of salt in the wound to be honest; though I know you don't at all intend it that way.

Oh and if anybody does make the jump to the browser log in through the mobile site, (search Crunchyroll log in on google) because it doesn't really work through the actual site for some reason.

Who's at fault for the premature release, really? Is it the company that tries to keep customers coming back, or the rabid fans that put the pressure on to release it? Cut them some slack, man.

Your kidding right? Nobody forced Crunchy Roll to release the PS3 App in this state.
Please think before you write something.

While your outrage is somewhat justified, Bjaker stated that none of the problems we are experiencing happened until the app was released. They didn't knowingly release something awful just for the sake of saying it was released. There are problems, they are working on them. They have to jump through Sony's hoops a little but like I've said many times, I'd like to believe this will get resolved sooner rather than later.

Getting this app "pulled" doesn't really accomplish anything. You're going to make a lot of people who are still enjoying the service despite its problems very upset and it won't change the speed with which they are working on the problems.

And as the person I quoted has stated, if the PS3 is really your only available(or simply preferred) device for watching anime, then use the browser. It may seem like defeating the purpose of the app but you'll save yourself from wasting your 30-day trial.

Using demand as an excuse for a faulty product is really just shifting the blame. I mean, I'm a new user and have it on PS3 exclusively, but to be honest it's a 'love-hate' relationship. There are so many good shows. I feel good about supporting the industry that has always entertained me and not stealing shows like those irresponsible thieves who run the streaming sites. Then again, the quality changes several tones per video. Fast forwarding or rewinding causes major lag and tears to the animation, it'll have 'hiccups' for up to ten seconds where I have no clue what is going on. I'm going to be honest and say I would not pay for this service as it stands. I have the free subscription, but if problems are not solved, I do not feel comfortable using this app. I love what Crunchyroll stands for and what the service entails. I do not care for how the product is delivered. As first impressions go, I am not sold until serious issues are solved.

It was never my intention to shift the blame. I made my comment because any number of factors could have factored into the development. I myself had some heavy criticism for the app and warned a friend to hold off on downloading it until the initial errors were fixed. Ultimately, it all boils down to when they fix the problems like you said, but roasting them isn't going to speed up the process. Programming an app for the ps3 isn't as simple as doing it for some other devices, and given CR's size, it's not going to be as smooth. Overall, it's a great service and I hope that one bad experience doesn't scare you away.

The PS3 app is already running HD content (720/1080p) on my device when available, but I'm a subscribed user.

My assumption would have been that they would take that setting and allow it to apply the global setting to devices on the account if they were to enable such an option.

This option became avaialble on Netflix a while back and it helps a lot with households that have bandwidth limits, multiple users, and functionality issues where the stream switches back and forth between qualities due to decreased bandwidth situations.

As a software developer, seeing what else they are working on, I'm sure it's low priority, but I added the feedback since it applies to the "reduced bandwidth" situations mentioned as it can act as a manual QoS (quality of service) setting.

I would be surprised by that, as HD content was not to be made available via the PS3 until later this year. What is making you believe that the content is sometimes 720/1080p?

The application on ps3 is having problems verifying my cc info when I attempt to sign up for 30 day trial. I've tried with multiple cards that I have no other issues with. I am in US and am entering correct information into the app.

It also happened to me. I clicked the submit information twice and it sent my cc info twice to the website. Just check your profile and try to log into the app.

Also if you want to be sure the update is downloaded. Before clicking on the app, press triangle and information. The number should be 1.01
