Went to my profile and got correct and verified cc info inputted, but app still won't let me start 30 day trial. When I try logging in it offers me the 14 day trial, when I try signing up for 30 day trial it still asks for my cc info and doesn't accept it

Weird. Try contacting customer support. Just explain that you tried to sign up for the free month and it did not activate while still getting your information and setting you up with an account. They should definitely help out.

Post patch, I watched 3 or so episodes of Gintama (including some pause + rewind / fast forward), added and removed stuff from my queue and jumped around the various menus a whole bunch without a crash. Still had the odd frame freeze while audio continues but the stability of the app seems to be greatly increased.

Sorely wish this app remembered state - it definitely sucks having to manually fast forward to get back to where you were in an episode.

Cheers

I did the update and now the app is worse than ever. I have yet to watch a single episode that doesn't lock up or act like it has severe lag. I hope this gets fixed soon.

For me the update worked great .... on both system type Fat/ Slim . However I did have a problem with an anime playback. It looked smeared like for about 5-8 seconds and the picture cleared up.

Still the streaming could be better ... and I expect this to go on for a bit..

I've two big complaints not listed, or at least that I've seen. Firstly, and I've counted, the video every 2 to 2 and half minutes will freeze, skipping ahead 5 or so seconds, stay frozen, and the audio will continue as normal, when the audio catches up, the video resumes as normal until the next 2 minutes. This is pretty awful and ruins your app for me by itself

The second is what happens when the next video in line plays, the audio becomes completely off and the video becomes sketchy and laggy looking, as if it's struggling to keep up with the shows movements.

These issues happen while I was watching Shugo Chara, which has no HD, so I know SD's are having these issues as well. ~.~

I wish there was a way to set the max reslution/quality that an account can play on device, say 720p instead of 1080p when 1080p is available.

I would expect that when apps finally begin to offer HD, they will obey the same Default Video Quality setting that the browser currently does. While some would no doubt prefer individual settings for each device, I suspect that would be more of a backburner issue for Crunchyroll.

The PS3 app is already running HD content (720/1080p) on my device when available, but I'm a subscribed user.

My assumption would have been that they would take that setting and allow it to apply the global setting to devices on the account if they were to enable such an option.

This option became avaialble on Netflix a while back and it helps a lot with households that have bandwidth limits, multiple users, and functionality issues where the stream switches back and forth between qualities due to decreased bandwidth situations.

As a software developer, seeing what else they are working on, I'm sure it's low priority, but I added the feedback since it applies to the "reduced bandwidth" situations mentioned as it can act as a manual QoS (quality of service) setting.

What are you talking about?
Content is still SD,just checked it after installing the patch.

I was wondering what kind of ps3 do you have slim/fat? hard drive size? does it have the latest update? have you uninstalled then reinstalled? Is your problems mostly lag. Just curious. What would crunchy have to do to make things right, and what would happen to make you cancel.

I'm still getting abrupt freezes, albeit less in occurrence.

Can we get some HD please.

In regards to problems i've had with this application:

1.) "The Spining Circle of Doom" (henceforth SCOD). Right now, about half of the time a screen tries to refresh, I get the nice SCOD in the bottom right hand corner, followed by "Unable to retrieve data. Please try again". This happens everywhere including "My Queue" which is currently empty.

2.) If the screen is already showing items (i.e. History screen has loaded, so you can see videos in the list) , but it is trying to refresh/SCOD... it is a *very* bad ideal to hit "X" to try to watch a video. In this case about more then half of the time the application will do its transition to playing the video (starts with a black screen), and then completely hang the PS3 (PS3 will play the sound associated with "error" in the XMB). At that point, the only way to recover to hold the power button/flip the power switch on the rear of the console to reset the unit.

3.) Stutter/Frame rate issue. This really doesn't seem like a of bandwidth/streaming issue... but rather a decoder issue. A prime example is "Dusk Maiden of Amnesia: Episode 1"... the video will always stutter (audio/video out of sync) at the 9-10 second mark. I have tried this dozen's of times with both of my PS3s, and it always presents in the same place.

For reference:

2x PS3 60gb Launch Models (CECHA01), both with upgraded drives/SSD. PS3's are Type 2 NAT (static port) but I currently do not allow port forwarding to these devices.

I have no issues with watching anything through any of my computers/HTPC's, and all devices are connected via gigabit ethernet to the same Cisco switch, which then connects to a high bandwidth FIOS connection.

I am having identical issues as SoTa_PoP. I have a "fat" PS3 with a 500GB HD, and 100Mb cable internet. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the CR application, and am experiencing the same issues. When moving to the next episode in sequence, the framerate becomes irregular and gets progressively more out of synch. Stopping the episode and restarting it usually corrects this problem. However, there are always frequent freezes in the video while the audio continues to play, then after about 5-10 seconds the video catches up and is more or less in synch with the audio.

More problematic is the occasional crash of the application itself. Unlike the 1.0 version, the app does not crash to the XMB but rather causes a hard lock of the system that forces a reset from the console itself. I cannot access the XMB, or the system menu from a long press of the PS button. It requires a long press from the power button on the console, and the system resets with the triple-beep that indicates a hard lock. The crash occurs randomly in the middle of episodes, and is not triggered by skipping from episode to episode as had been the case in 1.0.

I am 10 days into my 30 day trial (I entered my postal code with a keyboard, getting around the number pad bug), and thus far I am not satisfied enough with the experience to continue to subscribe after the end of my trial. The service is promising, but my primary media center is my PS3, so I will be basing my choice on the performance of the PS3 CR application. Compared to a comparable application such as the PS3 Netflix app, the CR app is unstable and difficult to navigate. Hopefully this can be resolved in short order, so that I may give Crunchyroll a fair assessment.

I just activated my 30-day free trial via PS3; Taburakashi made me do it So, I have a couple issues same as ryouiki above me. I also had a fatal freeze as per ryo's #2. The first episode of Tabu was littered with FR hiccoughs, as per ryo's #3. As my Japanese is rather weak, it was a little difficult not having the subs to fall back on during the glitches lol. Also, I noticed that the freezes were 'hard', as ryo pointed out... I couldn't just rewind and play again. It would hang at exactly the same point every time. I also use a 60gb 1st-run fatty [the ONLY way to fly].

Unlike other less patient users in these forums, this is in no way a deal-breaker for me. I am very used to being one of the early-adopters of something, be it app, software, or hardware. Sure, there are headaches, but I can always say 'I was there from the beginning.' -- and being there from the beginning has paid out massive dividends as far as my MUCH better PS3 than what is currently available on the market these days

So, once you have sorted out these little snags, any chance you might work on a PSV version of the app? Eh? Eh?

Oh, and ryo... rockin the SSDs eh? Never thought to do that, brilliant!

It's not a slim, and it's the 160gigity one. Yes it has latest updates, and I'll try uninstalling and reinstalling right now, not a bad idea. And no, it's not an issue of lag more so then the screen pushing ahead 4-5 seconds, freezing while waiting for audio to catch up then repeating again. I've looked around and it seems a lot of others have this problem.

And as for cancel, I'm frustrated but I'll give it another month after the trial expires. Good things come with time and I hope my complaints lead to the good things.

Well I decided to dig into this further... since not many people seem to have complained about this issue. Turns out that the outgoing TCP request from the PS3 is somewhat "naughty"... either the PS3 or the remote side does not like that my firewall is normalizing the packet/fiddling with timestamps and TTL.

I excluded the PS3's from this rule in the firewall, and now I am not longer having this issue. Certainly the first time i've ever seen this type of behavior before from any console/application.

I'm using a old original PS3 model

The main issue I'm getting is a lot of skipping in shows for about 3 - 6 seconds each and crashes every now and then. Also when I tried to view Asura Cryin' it was lagging bad then crashed the whole system.
