Sorry to flood this thread but I just discovered something else. There seems to be some kind of over-scanning flicker on the top and bottom of the videos. It is more noticeable in some videos and less so in others. In fact, watching the newest Fairy Tail episode was the first time it was bad enough that I actually noticed it. Before that I had watch about 3-4 episodes of other shows and apparently it wasn't bad enough to notice them without paying attention, however, after going back and re-watching those episodes the flicker is there. Its like a white line flickers the entire length of the top and bottom of the video. A very fast flicker. It seems to be an encoding thing as the flicker stops when you pause the video. If you time it right you can actually pause it when the white line flickers and it will stay there which makes me believe that it is actually part of the video, rather than an artifact produced during the playback.


I can provide a video if it would help with app developers.


EDIT: I mentioned the line being solid above, but it appears to change. On some parts of a video the line gets broken up in several sections. The sections flicker off and on producing a moving line. Imagine a neon sign, or a sign that uses bulbs that turn off and on in succession to produce a "moving" image. Or like the new Mustang's turn signal lights.


EDIT 2: I've seen other people mention the app crashing when changing episodes, but I would like to add that after selecting Quit from the XMB my PS3 restarted instead of just closing the app and going back to the XMB.

One person that noted this problem reported it went away once they updated their PS3 firmware. Check that your firmware is the most recent version:

In the past other apps have been premium only at first, as it takes additional time to code support for ads required to support free streaming.

That said, since CR offers free first episodes with this app, they may be planning on it remaining premium only.

Hey everyone!

Thank you for all of your feedback and reports.

Most of the issues being reported should be wrapped up with the release of the first patch.
It is currently in Sony's hands and just waiting for approval.


For users who are missing Mature titles, please go into your 'Video Preferences' and make sure you have 'Show Mature Content' selected.

(I just saw a lot of boobs and butts when testing this earlier, so I know it works!)


For users who are getting a black screen / no video playback.
Apparently there is an issue when your PSN account is logged in for 24 hours or longer. Session will expire and it isn't until turning off and turning back on your PlayStation that this is resolved.

Hopefully Sony is nicer to you folks than it normally is to indie game developers. . .it took months for them to approve the last Pinball Arcade table packs. I've also seen Christmas themed stuff show up well into the new year so approval can be retardedly slow.

I have to be honest and say that I am not going to be very keen on paying for an account while the player is still in it's borked state.

Have they given any indication of how long before the update is live?

Okay so I don't know how well this is known but I live in canada and Canada has letters in our postal codes which means the number only entry box for my credit card won't work at all so I can't verify it/get the 30 days.

Edit: I even put a payment method via the website but the free trial needs you to input it fresh I guess.

I just noticed something that may bring lawsuits and/or severe backlash from new people signing up through the PS3 for false advertisement.

The app froze my PS3 on a black screen when I tried to start it. After i restarted the PS3 and launched the app again I was logged out. When reading the free trial screen I noticed that it says "Watch new videos 1-hour after TV broadcast. No ads, HD quality.", however HD is not currently being offered on the PS3.

It should read something like "HD coming soon" or "HD currently only available through the website", but as it is worded right now it would make anyone believe that HD is offered for the PS3 app. There will be a lot of unhappy customers if they decided to sign up and pay for a premium account because HD was advertised, but not offered. I know I would be pissed.

Will our 30 day trials be reset and begin once these issues have been resolved? Because I'm already done with it in it's current state and I literally just signed up about 30 minutes ago. And yes, where's the HD? False advertising for sure.

First let me thank all of Crunchyroll for releasing this app. Great to know that you guys and gals are already at work on patching up some of the the issues the app is having. The biggest bug I've encountered so far is that some of my queued shows (astarotte's toy being one of them) will cause my ps3 to completely crash and require a hard reset of the system. I don't know if this has to do with the show not appearing in the app's list, but does this also have a chance of being fixed with the patch? Once again, thanks for making this

Just want to point out, apparently Fairy Musketeers won't play on the App. Trying to load a video, will cause the app to lock up for a moment, then it'll just stay on the video selection screen. Wondering if there's a problem with the video itself, rather than the app.

Thanks for the information! I think CR's servers may have been a bit overloaded; Netflix seemed to work just fine. I'll try the L2 solution, as well. Thanks again for responding.

Yes, it says one of the services Crunchyroll offers is HD quality anime which is true, it doesn't say the app itself will support that service though.

Actually is does not say that HD Quality is offered for only one of the services. What it says is what the picture shows. No where does it indicate that the HD quality video is only for the website and not for the PS3. Anyone who downloads an app and opens i up and sees "Sign up now for HD videos" will rightfully assume it is for the app. That is why I suggested that they change the message to indicate that HD is only available on the website, or that HD will be coming to the PS3 in the near future.

You have to think about this from the perspective of a new CR user who is now only hearing about this service for the first time through the PSN. They downloaded an app that advertises HD Quality video, but does not specify that it is only for the website and not for the PS3 app. A new user who is unfamiliar to CR and has not visited the website to see that HD is not available on the PS3 will be mislead into believing that they are signing up and paying for a service that advertises HD Quality video in an app that does not actually provide HD quality.

Other companies have been successfully sued for similar oversights.

Crunchyroll does not advertise HD videos in their iOS or their Android app because neither of those apps provide HD, so why are they advertising it in the PS3 app if it also is not supported? Apple wouldn't even approve the iOS app if Crunchyroll were to put "HD Quality" in the app and not actually provide HD videos because Apple considers it false advertisement and is against Apple's TOS.
