Can you give me a particular episode and a time during when this happens?

I watched the first two episodes of the first season. It just looks really outdated and old, not sure if it's a quality issue, or that's just the way it looks. If you ever watched Shakugan no Shana, the quality reminds of that, so I assume it's the show. Not a big deal though I can manage with this, was just curious.

I'm playing episode 19 of Shin Sekai Yori on the PS3, and its doing the following:

1) Freezing up about every 3 minutes

2) Just after the 9 minute mark, it "ends" and shows the next episode countdown screen.

I just reloaded the app since I've been having problems, this is working better than it has been, but its still making it effectively unusable.

Wired or Wi Fi?

First let's try setting up Static IP or Automatic DNS to see if this resolves the issue.

To set a Static IP: http://portforward.com/networking/staticip-ps3-playstation-3.htm
(No I'm not telling you to buy anything click the x to close the pop up and the directions are right there.)

To set Automatic DNS: http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps3/current/settings/connectadvance.html

Normally I wouldn't post unless I had a serious issue with the app but I feel like the little things have just piled up and feel I should mention them.

So after continued use, maybe 2 hours or more. Skipping to the next episode via R1 cases video playback to lag. (Minor problem that is normally fixed via exiting to the queue and waiting for it to load the next episode)

Not using L2/R2 to skip through your queue quickly but instead using the left and right D-pad will cause the app to crash to XMB. Crashes also occur randomly as well but fairly infrequently.(noticed this tends to happen again after longer periods of use)

Once in a while if you make an attempt to start a program while the loading icon is still turning this will result in a full blow freeze of the PS3, forcing it to be reset via power button.

Perhaps these problems aren't wide spread or maybe my PS3 is temperamental, though it is only CR app that gives it trouble. I felt I should mention these issues as, while not entirely hindering my enjoyment, these problems are starting to wear very thin on me. I've actually started to just close CR app every 2 or 3 episodes to try and minimize the annoyances but they can still occur and being forced to do so is an annoyance itself. I'm not expecting perfection here I just feel that these problems are far too frequent for me to not bring them up.

The first two are known issues that our engineers are working on.

Once in a while if you make an attempt to start a program while the loading icon is still turning this will result in a full blow freeze of the PS3, forcing it to be reset via power button.

Can you elaborate on that?

Well out of the 3 issues I run into this is thankfully the least frequent but it still happens maybe once a week on average. Because of that my info is a little more anecdotal. Like with the other problems this seems to only occur after extended time periods of use. It seems the times this would happen most would be when the app was already visually lagging while scrolling through the queue. I would choose an episode to play and it would cut to black. During this time the ps3 activity light(yellow one) is solid and I have not had the opportunity to wait and see if the app eventually crashes to XMB or remains frozen.

When I power the ps3 down it attempts to safely shut down but then it is unable so it hangs there for about 10 seconds gives what I assume is an error sound then forces itself to shut down. Hope that helps.

I'm having a problem where videos go black screen and i can't play any, it seems to only happen in the evening. If i watch them early in the morning it works just fine, but by around 3-4 pm central time they stop playing. At first i thought it might be the Memory leak that was mentioned awhile back, but i've since tested it and it does this all night whether ive used it prior in the day or not. seems to be roughly 3pm till after midnight. The next day it always goes back to working fine. I have set up a static IP aswell as tried many other things that were suggested here.

This is a frequent occurrence for myself as well, so I'll give my experiences with it too. This happens after extended use. Anywhere between 2-4 consecutive hours, the app will start to have FPS lag throughout it entirely; videos lag, subtitles become out of sync (obvious scenario with the video lag, but their timing is also off from their normal pace), menus lag, etc. I say "FPS lag" based on what it looks like on the user end, it may very well be a server lag on Crunchyroll's end causing this, but for obvious reasons that's out of my ability to test.

There are two possible outcomes or "fixes" during this time:

1: If I'm watching a show when the lag hits, often times I'm able to close out the show by going back to the user queue/videos list and allowing the loading icon to fully finish (refresh). Often times this "fix" results in a normalization rate of 1 video, meaning, if this "fix" worked, I'm allowed to properly watch 1 video before the FPS lag comes back.

2: Sometimes the 1st process doesn't work so closing out of the app, going back to the XMB, and then reloading the app will "fix" the issue. Here again though, I use "fix" as nothing is fixed. This process allows for normal usage for a seemingly random period of time. I've gone so much as an hour without the issue rearing its head and as little as 10 minutes. I can't give an average for normalcy as I haven't logged this issue at all.

Prolonged use of these two fixes will rack up a ridiculous amount of hard freezing of the PS3 system (not the Croll application). This is also something I have not logged, but after having to resort to either of these "fixes" it's a safe bet that the PS3 system will eventually start freezing up. Also, after the first freeze, any subsequent reboot doesn't stabilize the Crunchyroll application for another 2-4 hours, instead I start back at the outcome detailed in outcome 2. Lastly, in this area, simply launching a video can freeze the PS3 or crash the application at this point.

A little detail on the PS3 system freeze, as it's far from a standard freeze the system should experience: The PS3 will produce a soft "beep" through speakers and then the T.V. screen goes black. The system remains powered on, as does the controller. Any attempt to shut down the PS3 in a normal manner is futile; the controller, while on, will not function so its ability to control the system's power is removed. If I press the power button on the front of the PS3, it will not power down the system. A typical freeze should allow for the system to be powered down normally, with or without a controller.

I've created a break above, at this point, because now we have two possible scenarios that can happen and that will lead the system to powering down (without pulling the plug).

1: I Press the PS3 power button down for a few seconds (the system will beep a few times in a row to signify when to let go). Sometimes this will power the system down. This is the rarest of the two scenarios to occur.

2: If process1 fails; repeat process 1, but this time I hold it down until I hear the system make a "click" noise on the inside. I'd wager this "click" is the PS3 recognizing its inability to power down normally, thus it opts to power down in a different manner, a manner that takes another power down time cycle (i.e. if it takes 5 seconds to power down normally, it takes 10 seconds now in total). Basically, the PS3 has (at least) two methods of powering down and after method 1 fails, the "click" signifies the second method occurring for it to power down.

Following the first scenario, the PS3 will, in most instances, start-up again normally. However, scenario 2 has a different norm. Scenario 2 often leads to system to believing it has corruption issues (seemingly in the OS itself), thus, it starts up and ask that the user do a systems check. This check, I say with 100% assurance on my record, can be skipped, nothing is wrong with the system files. However, should people choose to do the check the time the check takes can range in time from 5 minutes to an hour. I've done it 3 times just to sort of gauge the timing standards. I have no explanation for the difference in timings here, other than to assume it actually needed to repair system files, that said, I generally just bypass the check and it has yet to cause me any problems with the system.

In conclusion, on this subject, the only way to get my 2-4 hours of normalcy back is to just leave the system turned off for an amount of time I can't say (other than it being a "long time"). I typically at this point just turn it off and use my PC for the rest of the day to watch anime. That said, if I play a game, use Netflix, or use Amazon Video on Demand, there are no issues during this time of Crunchyroll's instability; the PS3 will function as it is supposed to, without issue. Crunchyroll is the only thing affected and effecting the PS3 system. This leads me to believe it could be an issue of heating. That may sound absurd (given Crunchyroll is just software), but it's not the strangest thing I've seen in this area, just almost. I'd wager to say the application has some rather heavy "hooks" in places it shouldn't; or another take, it's using these "hooks" to compensate for shortcomings of the application's standards (wrong wording here with "standards" but your engineers should understand none-the-less). This isn't my field of expertise, so this is just an uneducated observation/thought.

That issue aside; I'll take the time to mention a few other instances of me experiencing frequent freezing of the PS3 system or crashing of the application (no matter their frequency in this thread) and a few other random issues.

-R2 to scroll user queue. (infrequent PS3 freezing or app crash during normalcy period, very frequent if "fixing" period)

-R2 to scroll a specific series to a season 2 or higher (infrequent PS3 freezing or application crash during normalcy period, very frequent if "fixing" period)

-During the transition from 1 episode to the next, when the loading takes place and the episode information box appears, the T.V. picture within the box appears discolored (typically with whites, grays, and blacks) and "scrambled" as in, these colors are in small rectangle shapes, side-by-side. (infrequent during both normalcy and "fixing" period)

-Launching a video can cause the application to crash or PS3 to freeze. (infrequent during normalcy period, very frequent if "fixing" period)

Hopefully this can help get things straightened out finally. If you or the engineers need me to be more through in any of this by all means let me know.

I figured it was something that'd be fixed eventually but it's been months now and it's still there so I'm writing about. Recently released simulcasts (I'm talking within like 2 or 3 hours) never work on my 120 GB PS3 slim. Trying to play them simply goes to an all black screen and either crashes the app or sends me back to the previous screen I was at.

If I come back the next day (sometimes only like 8 hours later) everything works fine and dandy.

It has been weeks since I have been able to use CR on my PS3's. start the app, CR screen comes up to connect and then beep sound, black screen and hard reboot is needed. Others have mentioned the same, so I'm very disheartened that it is still going on! I have two PS3's, a older fat one, wired connection and a new slim one that is WiFi. Both stream netflix at 1080p without issues, but I always had some stutter, crashes with CR. Now CR won't even launch.

When is the next major update to the app? I assume there are many premium PS3 members that are just tired of having to continue as a web service.
