I'm straight up atheist even though my family is Catholic and I was forced to go to Catholic school for a certain period of time. I've been baptized and even had my communion and confirmation. Still atheist. I respect other people's beliefs, however, and understand why they would need to something to believe in in life. It annoys me when some of them are disrespectful to my opinion, though. Once a Jehovah's Witness called me evil and told me to have fun in hell .

yeah. that's what they would tell me. i wish that there would be a law against people not being able to go up to your house and try to talk to you about religion.

Right? Geez. It starts getting annoying after awhile. Even better if EVERYONE could just be respectful of each other's opinions. I know there are some atheists out there too that act rude. Ugh I'm really getting tired of being called evil for having my own opinion .

the part i don't get, is that they tell me to go to hell, and then i say "how am i going to hell... if i don't even believe in that kind of crap?!" but the only reason i really hate religion though is it pushes down the evolution of science i respect that people believe in religion and stuff, but i wish people would not try to push it on me.
and also, i really think that death is equal. because nature doesn't have morale or righteousness and stuff like that. as far as i'm concerned, all you have to do be okay is surivive. and that could mean any means necessary.

It has a certain note of irony to it, what you've just said, because religious institutions were once the greatest havens of science and culture the world had at one point.

I'm atheist, I don't mind in what people believe in. But in all honesty I think religion is just stupid and is the biggest problem.

I believe the problem lies in the people that are at the top rather than the chain of belief and institutions themselves.Science is dangerous to religion, as it goes far to disprove all that has happened within it. Christianity, for instance, is heavily threatened by the existence of fossils and evolution. So they either have to; Admit Genesis was a metaphor as most of the Holy Bible has been drawn to being, hurriedly make their own stories to fit in with the Bible, or dismiss all of the evidence as being false (or in extreme cases) tools used by Satan to lure those of the true faith away from the path of righteousness. I have actually seen this in action, as I belonged to a mission program when I was homeless and was almost endlessly (but hopelessly on their part) indoctrinated.

I enjoy Robert Pirsig's statement that when one person suffers from a delusion it is called "insanity". When many people suffer from a delusion it is called "religion".

Seems like you're judging all Christians based on a stereotype about some of them.

Basically if your parents were to tell you that stealing is bad you will most likely learn to think that way and you will judge people for stealing. You may even learn to hate thieves. Christians are the same. They put a lot of themselves into a belief that tells them to do certain things in specific ways. They judge you for doing drugs and having sex and not having morals. Realisitically, the world would be a better place if we all followed the way of the bible.

p.s I don't believe in God and I don't own a bible.

If you believe the world would be a better place without religion than it's not just religious people that believe in fairy tales.

Ignorance knows no race, creed, nationality, or religion. People would be still be the same even if they didn't have religion and they would just find some other excuse to hate, kill, or control one another. It's not like all these religious free governments are at the height of enlightenment and are leading the charge for peace.

There are plenty of stupid people who are religious and atheist. And plenty of smart religious people and atheists.

My personal thoughts on the matter (I stress personal) is that science actually strengthens the case of their being a God but science and religion battle it out and denying each other to see it.

Science proves the universe and world is complex, governed by laws, has established order, and basically makes sense but it suggests that this occurred by a big explosion and just randomly happened.

It's like looking at a house and suggesting that it all came together because an explosion happened and that's how it came out. Sure you can argue that with enough explosions the outcome would eventually become the house but the odds are heavily stacked in favor of someone creating the house.

Science may not have to acknowledge there being a greater being but it has no choice to acknowledge something beyond human comprehension is the origin point because you can all say "ok, so where did that come from" endlessly.
