I'm atheist. My mother is Christian and has forced me to go to church but I've never liked going or believed in that bull. To me, religion is just brainwashing. Luckily, I was awesome enough to overcome the brainwashing (even at a very young age). Now she doesn't go anymore and therefore, I don't have to go either =D. Plus I WILL make a fool out of myself and out of her if she would make me go now (I'm 18). Iunno, maybe I'll just start screaming while the pastor's doing the prayer. LOL. 8D

My mom says grace when we eat "Thank God for this food blahblah." No, thank yourself, Mom. You worked hard to get where you are and you provided the money for the food -_-.

My boyfriend is Christian and lately this year I've been wanting absolutely NOTHING to do with religion. So, yeah, I'll probably end it soon.

Religion just fucks up the world. So many issues (wars, murders, marraige) have happened because of all these religions. I just don't want anything to do with it. And let the gays/lesbians/bisexuals get married and be happy (they also seem to stay together longer than a straight couple)! Marraige is not only between a man and a woman and (recently) reproduction as well. By the way, I'm straight.

I'm technically Agnostic, in that I don't think there is a god, but still can't prove that there is no god, but even if god was proven, I would deny him. Anyone who sits by and ignores the hell that people in the worse for wear parts of the world, even though they could fix those places up right away is a BAD person. Not only that, but what kind of person sets up a test where in order to get into heaven, you are judged not on how good of a person you are, but if you believe in an improbable, invisible, intangible being of some other dimension, and throws everyone else, no matter how good those people were, into a lake of fire. Fuck that, I would rather burn that have to sit next to someone as reprehensible as that for eternity.

ok to the red first off that would violate free will. forcing himself on us we have to choose to accept him.

ok here there are two problems first off the only reason hell (gehenna there is actualy a place of waiting b4 hell and hades where we get hell from means the place of waiting) is called a lake of fire/ considered the most horrible torment of all is from the persective of someone who knows god (a christian) who being torn away from god for all eternity and time the only possible description of the horror and torture of such an idea is a lake of fire that never consumes its fuel (you).

next i challenge you to investigate the information and the bible and come to the conclusion that it was not authored by god. (im asking you to look for the truth whether or not you find it pleasant). third no person is free from sin every human being born is tainted from birth. only jesus's death can blot it out and god wont force that on you you have the choice to accept the gift or not. god loves us but he gives us a choice. he didnt make the world this way humans screwed it up and he is going out of his way to give everyone a way to get out of having to face the punishment of not being allowed to be with him.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvDqrSTCcmA watch this and see what you think. i am perfectly willing to hold a civil discussion with you on this via PM so as not to disturb this thread. (or if you want to and the OP dont mind i am willing to reply here)

ok you have made many assertions and given no proof. first off, yes religion (a set of dogma's and rituals adhered to beyond reason etc) is not good.

next do you really think that without religion people wouldnt find a reason to screw eachother over? rape, murder, just fight and hurt eachother in general.

im christian i believe the bible is gods word and im NOT catholic (i have serious problems with the organization but i wont bring that up here)

if you wish to discuss these matters i will discuss each subject with you as you wish. (btw homosexuality for instance is wrong because sex is only supposed to be between an man and a woman for reproduction while in a marriage to provide a stable environment to raise kids). the loving someone else isnt what is considered wrong its the sex. a follower of christ is supposed to Love everyone (even if we find it hard sometimes). whether or not you act on your lusts is indeed a choice. and i condemn the people who say god hates gays he does not he loves them with all his heart, he hates their sins just as he hates my sins and yours.

and yes marriage is between a man an a woman only. you will need a different term for same sex relationships. the term marriage has always meant the union of a man and a woman. that is its definition. to change that is like going and changing the definition of vegan to include all other forms of vegetenarianism,

I am Christian. Why do I believe in it? Because I just do. It's hard to explain. Anyways, I don't tell people they're going to Hell because they don't believe in my religion. I believe that to be very annoying, actually. Plus, I have a lot of atheist friends. I am not going to stop being their friend because they don't have the same beliefs. Seriously, people take it way overboard sometimes. *sigh*

As long as I can remember, Religion was never part of my life. My parents made me got to Catholic church when I was a kid, and I did whatever I was expected to do because I grew up in a household where the kids were told what to do and we HAD to do it... but I never understood why I was going because I was never told why, just to do it.

Later, when I "snapped out of it", I knew it wasn't for me. And I never felt lost or longing for a superior being to look over me, in fact I felt glad I didn't have to go to church anymore.... then I wondered why I was going in the first place??? Then it dawned on me, "because my parents made me go"... that's all.

So a new question came to me... "If I'm not Catholic, then what am I??"... then I figured it out.... "I'm just ME!!" I won't call myself a Atheist because that's just another label to go by..... I'm just me.

So here I am.. I celebrate Christmas to get & give presents... I celebrate July 4th cause I like fireworks... I celebrate Thanksgiving cause I like Turkey, I celebrate my birthday cause I'm getting older ... Hell, I'll even celebrate Secretaries Day cause I know a few... .

But what's important to me, is I have lots of friends who are many religions or even non-religious. My friends who are Christian, Catholic, Lutheran, Jehovah's witness..................... Klingons, Satan worshippers, Doctor Whoveens, Asgardians, Trekkers ............. They all respect me for who & what I am, A Nice Guy who's "Just being myself"... nothing more, AND i LOVE & RESPECT EVERYONE OF THEM!! I help friends in need, I show compasion, I shake hands with ppl and lend a shoulder to cry on or lend a ear to borrow. And I respect their views as they respect mine

And for those who try to say to me that there's so much more by embracing any religion that's out there, I'm polite but firm...... "sorry, I'm not interested". And for those who refuse to accept my views, then your just as arrogant by trying to change my mind AS those who would argue that you should change yours.

So the bottom line, if religion is your thing, that's cool for you, it's just not MY thing....... Cool??????

I was born and raised Baptist... then realized that I felt like I was talking to myself... and since i already did that enough, to personify my talking to myself made me sound crazy... so I am an atheist. I am not for or against science either but both have their faults.

I have a huge problem with 'christians' who do what their 'good book' tells them NOT to do...

no, was united Methodist, which in my ignorance thought was Christian; when i was 15 my faith was at an all time low and thought reading the bible, which i have never read, would help. i read the first book and gave up. that's when i learned why my pastor only talked about small sections. those were the good parts that got his point across. it was all downhill from there.

I would suggest that the period of time you spent searching for truth was not endless. And if your age of 20 is accurate, I would even go as far as suggesting that your search for the truth wasn't even extended, much less endless.

Furthermore, there is nothing harder to accept than reality. Accepting the notion that the people I loved and cherished, who died and left me heartbroken and alone in this world -- aren't really dead -- would be a cakewalk. It wouldn't be painful, it would be the easiest, most pleasurable and comforting of all possible delusions.

The idea of religion began as a great one in my opinion. But think about this. Religion is supposed to be OUR interpretation of what we believe God wants us to do/live/etc. The only objective part about religion is that following the rules and guidelines provided will land you a spot in heaven and if you stray away from the path, well you'll end up in hell or somewhere else thats unpleasant.

Why are there revisions of religious script?
Why are there multiple forms of religion?
Why does expanding your knowledge make you more likely to ditch religion?

Technically, I BELIEVE, the only reason why people feel that there isn't any concrete evidence pointing to the non-existence of the supernatural is because:
1: We want to believe that there is an afterlife for our loved ones, ourselves, etc. (Haven where we all meet and yeah!)
2: We don't have explanations for everything yet. But that's part of life, if it makes you comfortable getting the answer, "Because God made it that way" Have at it, but that's a very secluded and depressing way to live in my opinion.
3: We love the idea of "Them Versus Us" In groups and Out Groups, subjecting hate on someone because God said so. i.e: Gay Bashing.

depends i didnt mean endless in the literal sense and i meant endlessly (as in constantly) and its still going its only the core i have figured out. and yes your right reality is hard to accept i found it painfull and hard to accept many things the bible said most because i didnt really understand it or because of misinformation.

actualy i remember my search (or my awareness of it) as beggining around 7th grade. so thats nearly half my life.

again i agree reality is hard to accept. thats why ive only within the past few months truly come to god and come to understanding.
secondly you are insulting me by aluding that my belief in the spirit and ressurection to be delusional without even proffering the slightest bit of evidence. what evidence there is to be had that can be gained scientifically is all in favor of god. i wonder how much you know of quantum physics and the statistics on the likelihood of the big bang theory (hint its really really not in favor of it, if you believe there was nothing and then it exploded and you think that makes more sense than it being created, then your welcome to it) i assume you didnt watch the video and listen to what he said.

honestly even when i thought death may be the complete end i never really feared it. (especialy since i had depression and at times thought the peace of not having to deal with it anymore would be great). tho i do i admit i fear the pain that is likely to come from most ways of dieing.

EDIT: btw watching ur vid and first off Catholicism is not true Christianity. there has been much biblical apostasy and use of allegory from that church. secondly im about halfway thru and ..... this dude chuck missler could rip his arguments to shredds so far ive heard all these before. and seen them shredded.
