I started my free premium trial and I was disappointed by the lack of shows I wanted to watch. I figured for paying 7 bucks a month for just anime and other japanese shows, the anime selection would be quite extensive, yet I am let down after every search I try yields nothing.

I was wondering if shows are going to be added on a regular basis, and not just new shows. Trigun, Outlaw Star, Rurouni Kenshin, DBZ, ect ect ect..all the shows i loved as a child are absent.

Is the focus on just new shows or will older shows be added on a regular basis? If so how often will the library be updated?

Hell, Hulu and Netflix seem to have more anime than the actual anime service app.

Any information would be appreciated. In the meantime, I'll just watch Gundam Wing and Fist of the north star.

Please add rurouni kenshin...for the love of god, i need it.

Quoting the FAQ:
"We only release videos for titles that we have gained the proper rights to distribute here. Before we can add a Title here, we first have to gain the right to host the series from the companies that own it. Since this process takes a long time and there is no guarantee that we'll get a specific Title, we simply can't take requests."

I'm going to guess it's much harder to get already licensed shows like Trigun and other old shows in general to stream. I don't believe there's anything on this site that's older than 2009(8?).

I see. Well that's unfortunate. Seems like I'm better off just downloading my anime than to actually pay for a service with a poor, limited selection.

Even though the app is a bit restricted, the site has a quite great amount of shows to watch, well organized, subbed and easy to find . Even though some shows are not on CR yet, they might be added sooner or later. To answer your question,it basically depends on what you want to watch. If you're going trough the list and think a whole bunch of anime or drama look good, then you might want to get a membership. If you only see 2-3 ones you really want to watch, I think you can bear watching a few advertisements. I think CR also takes suggestions,so now's time to propose these shows ^-^

There is a lot of anime that is much older than 2009 or 8...such as fist of the north star...and gundam wing Regardless, the premium service clearly isn't worth anything if i cant get my nostalgia on. Most anime these days is highly cliche and just boring, except for a select few imo.

Youre not hardcore enough for this site. I think its worth it though since I've been subbing for over a year and havent run out of anime to watch yet but I have very diverse tastes.(and if youre going to marathon 400+ episodes of naruto you really dont want ads in the way) Back on topic though the more people that sub the more anime they can get.

Its hard to just look at an anime and say "that looks good" because anime is so mass produced and cliche these days that only a select few stand out.

If you overlook them, maybe, but just taking a look at the basics of story plots, graphics and characters may help you in your choice. Looking at reviews may also help. Considering that anime enters into many different categories and styles, I don't think it's so cliché . Yet,you might say older ones are better, but I don't think it's any better. Old or not, some are good, some are bad,it just depends on what you like.

its mainly due to the fact that...almost every single character is a clone from a previous character. Almost every lead character in anime nowadays seems to follow a strict and predetermined personality with very little variance. If for anime was like Deathnote I would watch it a lot more.

Trigun, Outlaw Star, Rurouni Kenshin, DBZ, ect ect ect..all the shows i loved as a child are absent.

Those almost certainly will not be added, since I am fairly sure Funimation has locked up the license for them.

Hell, Hulu and Netflix seem to have more anime than the actual anime service app.

Those services operate a little differently, CR only streams stuff they get license to translate, sub, and stream/simulcast. CR seems to be
aimed at those who want the new stuff (hence the simulcasts that coincide with the Japanese broadcast), where Funimation etc will take considerable time after the series has ended to release the product.

It's true there are plenty of troupes in anime that get recycled until they boarder on cliche, but there is plenty of good stuff, if you go out side of the genres you're use to.

Yeah I guess im just getting older, im not so easily impressed since ive watched anime for so long that a large majority of it seems like its just the same as the thousand other shows in the same genre. I'm 26 and i've been watching anime since i was like 12 so i've seen so much that most anime nowadays is just uninspired it seems...but i guess i have to start giving more shows a chance.

I have to agree on the fact death note was really good. It had a great yet long story plot.Characters were unique and interesting, and story was overall thrilling. I'd say most animes now are 12-24 episodes. However, you still find few ones that have more and are great to watch ^-^ As you said, give them a chance

Because we all know it's better to pirate all the anime than to actually go out and purchase it or support legal sites like CR (for subtitled anime), Netflix (for dubbed releases), and other similar sites.

Anime Fandumb at its finest.

And yes, purposely spelled that way.

From what I've seen, Crunchyroll rarely brings in old completed anime but in the past year they have done more simulcasts. So my suggestion is if none of the titles that are currently airing or are already here interest you stop your membership and wait for the fall lineup to come out. No one says you have to subscribe every month right?

I don't know about Hulu but I know all of the anime on Netflix are dubs so if you don't mind dubs, go subscribe to Netflix and get more of a variety of shows.

Another plus would be that I can watch from my phone/ipod straight from my bed perfect for a lazy person like me.

Based on TC's post, I'm guessing that he's mainly a fan of mainstream shonen (action) animes.

My reccomendation: Have you tried Naruto?

Maybe Bleach, Fairy Tail, or Code Geass would be more to your liking.

Lol, obviously, but i appreciate you pointing that out for all the dumbasses...

Anyway, anime is way to expensive to buy, and i've watched everything i've wanted to see on netflix, so I was hoping this app would have an extensive selection. To find out its mostly geared towards current releases im a bit disappointed, is all, being a fan of older, much more interesting and inspired anime when the characters where not all just cardboard cutouts.
