Well, I created this topic obviously because I'm always, always, misunderstood.
Just a short story why... (Promise, this is short) I've just entered my fourth year in college and I don't know why if maybe I'm saying all the wrong things because every time I open my mouth to say just about anything. A single, random comment, I always get scolded by my professor. Well granted that she is already in her seventies but really at first I thought it was just her entering a phase but every time, every single time any word I say I get automatically reprimanded. Being labeled as being too whiny if I voice out my complaint like the last time about our lockers but when one of my classmates did repeat that complaint he was not scolded because of it. At times, I'm called vulgar when I openly say my opinion regarding any topic. Another I was shouted at lacking manners because she can't take many people telling her things at the same time, we were four then but only I was lectured about etiquette. When I tried being quiet and just using my laptop, I was called AGAIN for being uncooperative and lost in my own world. Seriously, i don't know what I should do anymore! Even the last option of doing this is ruled out. So here I am venting out my frustrations, what do you think? What about you have you ever been misunderstood in what situation? |

I just get misunderstood a lot because its either I talk way to fast or I talk really softly that no one understands what I'm saying. Then theirs my second and third languages. Once I start speaking in those languages I always get misunderstood |

I'm also misunderstood because I'm talking way too fast, is that a crime. We're just excited, is all |

Haha that's how I feel! I've been told that I'm whiny too but I'm really just voicing out my opinions *-*
I'm probably misunderstood a lot but people just don't tell me since I don't know how my comments/suggestions come off as. |

I used to hate it, but I don't really care much about it anymore.

I can already control reality with my mind, banning me is pointless.

As for talking in class... That's a touchy subject for me as a lecturer... My basic thought, and the thought of most professors when it comes to mouthy students is: Are you there to listen and learn? Hearing opinions, or even factual information from a student tends to give the academic the immediate thought of: "trying to teach a fish how to swim, eh?" we already know how to swim, we don't need your little fishy baby self to teach us what we're paid to teach you. It's a normal snobby type reaction teachers have, especially when they're experts in their fields and have literally written the textbook you're sitting in class marking up with a highlighter..... *sigh* |

Alot of people can be pretty rude when you voice out your opinion... But, If they hate it, Then so be it. You're entitled to your own words and doings. So don't let none of them get you down, The world can be a very mean place... But just remember, Your words Do matter.

Old people are just like that. All you can do it sit it out. As long you know it's not your problem, you don't need to change anything. But don't go out of your way to piss her off, either. She's 70-years old, nothing you do can do much to change her view of things. Just leave her be.

OP: I wouldn't take it personally, because I don't think you're the problem at all. You're being singled out because of how your professor perceives and judges you. You know when you meet someone and automatically decide you don't like them, despite not truly getting a chance to know them? Maybe this is what happened with your professor, so in turn you have a harder time in class and she singles you out. She might not even realize that she puts you to a higher standard than the rest of the class, but it's only human.
Also, women are notoriously tougher on other women when it comes to an academic or professional or really any competitive setting, than they are on men. Say what you will, but there are still sexual discriminatory undertones running through society today despite all the "advancements." In terms of myself: Nobody understands me. Only me. Because there are no men like me. There is only me. |

In your situation described Id be a 12. I dont really like old people. I like them even less if they single me out in class. Problem is if you speak out and call them on their BS in front of everyone you are basically giving yourself a B+ max in that course since they will grade your term papers as though you are a colleague and not a student, and thats with amazing levels of work on on your part. My advice just see if you can take the course from a different prof and withdraw from this enrollment. I mean classes just started again right? If they are the only one teaching that course then you're just plain screwed. I guess you could reintroducing their face to the stairs when they leave the faculty lounge and see if she changes her tune... J/K. (Maybe)
