Like Zensunni said, the light novels are finished in Japan with Vol. 17 (The Epilogue) released in July, 2011. It sold well enough, but I don't believe it broke any records or anything of the sorts. Just a solid series, start to finish. Yen Press has said they're going to pick up the pace of translating the Spice and Wolf novels and they're, at a minimum, licensed up to Vol. 10.

I keep hoping for a third season, but I have my doubts that we'll ever see it.

I really can't expand much on this since I think it's just about a perfect explanation of their relationship as it can get. I just love it when someone thinks so deeply about an anime.

I agree. The progression from - business acquaintances, discovering friendship, and later discovering much more was just so well done in the anime it really made me invest in the anime emotionally.
That's partly what made her such a compelling character. Add the smarts and the teasing ontop and you have one of my favorite characters.

Anyways, thanks for the great post.

Finished both seasons of the anime ages ago. Loved every minute of it. I like that they took their time developing the characters and relationships.

Beautiful piece of art IMHO. One of the best fantasy/romance animes out there.
