This isn't my poem or an entry, I just wanted to share the recent episode's beautiful poem. <3

My fear is that you
will forget your promise
to never forget me.
So I would prefer to die
now while I am still happy.

I would enter but I don't watch those two anime shows mainly because the ones I do watch are so time consuming as it is. So I wouldn't know how to fit them into a haiku and since you made it into contest where the viewers decide the winner. It will end up being a popularity contest which puts the odds against introverts like myself.

I have to disagree, it's usually the introverts who can make the most beautiful and heartfelt poems at times.

Haiku for Chihayafuru about Taichi and Kanade's explanation of the "Chihaya" (Impassionate gods have never seen the red that is the Tatsuta river) card:

Hopelessly in love
Shaken, and yet unyielding
As the red river

How would that possibly matter if what he said is that it would basically be a popularity contest and introverts like himself don't get a lot of support, because they don't have a lot of friends to support them rather introverts tend to rely on themselves.

Hm, I've never actually read the Ogura Hyakunin Isshu but have heard of it...learning more about the poems and poets through Chihayafuru and Utakoi has been great! So since it's nearing summer's end here in the Northern Hemisphere, here's my stab at a hundred-poem-inspired haiku I guess! It's not just about bugs and trees, but love~ PROMISE

lone cicada's call
relentless; strong maple trunk
bark carved, sap smiling

Inspired by Utakoi Episode 7 (specifically Yoshitaka)

Death will greet me soon,
Do not mourn for me my love,
Love is undying.

yes but when the viewers decide the winners the poems do not matter. What matters is how many people you can get to vote for you. It becomes a class election type scenario. How many people do you think will read all these submissions and cast a vote compared to friends who vote for someone they know. In the end the same reason the crunchyroll staff decided to let the viewers vote is the same reason this contest is going to be a unfair one. Someone could submit the worst haiku in this thread and still end up winning if they had enough friends. If the staff judged this then there would be no way for someone to get extra votes for having a ton of friends because a red flag would go up if the staff voted for someone they all knew. But they don't care how it's judged or if the judging is rigged as long as they can advertise. If the staff rigged it they would be liable but since the submitters vote no one is.

A young man with light brown hair sat in front of a pond, fiddling with a red leaf with only one face in his mind.

With a deep sigh, he whispers to the gentle breeze,
waiting... and hoping..

"While the seasons change
The red river flows faster
Chihaya my heart"

This poem uses Chihaya's name while also exploring the true meaning of her name..

As time passes
Taichi's love for Chihaya continue to grow and engulf him,
leaving him a deep, and passionate feeling for Chihaya

Applicable to both anime

Title: unrequited love

Shy furtive glances
Passionate fire concealed
Intentions hidden

Chihayafuru

I've loved you for years
But you keep yearning for him...
SLAP! These cards are mine.

Your eyes watch his hands
As he plays his perfect game.
Why can't you love me?

What I want, I get
I'm willing to play or fight
Either way, you're mine

Spoken syllables
Fall into my waking dream.
My heart remembers.

My back is aching
My head full of poetry
Please, just let me sleep!

Softly possessive,
A lover's touch spreads the cards
Learning everything.

Memorizing you
Learning each line and column
I caress my cards.

I know where you are
I close my eyes and see you
A breath. A word. Mine.
