KBS casts body-swapper drama Oohlala Spouses

Just when you thought the body-swap trend was dying down, here comes another one — but don’t write it off just yet, because this one is working a specific angle: They’re husband and wife.

KBS is prepping a new rom-com drama series, Oohlala Spouses (Ulala?), to be headlined by Kim Jung-eun (I Am Legend) and Shin Hyun-joon (Gaksitaaaaaal). Aw, they should be cute together. Shin Hyun-joon plays the patriarchy-minded husband, a hotelier, while wifey Kim Jung-eun is your typical Korean ajumma. The two awake one morning to find their souls in new shells. Oh, this oughtta be good.

The drama has my attention from the get-go, despite being disappointed by recent body-swappers like Big and even Secret Garden. The difference here, I think (I hope), is that the body-swapping serves a key purpose other than comic hijinks, since it forces the two to literally walk in each other’s shoes and reevaluate the relationship with their newly gained perspectives.

I’m sure we’ll get those hijinks, but if we’re using the swap as a mode of enlightenment and understanding, then the comedy is really just icing on the cake. I love when the comic scenario turns into something more meaningful — it’s something we really lacked in Big, for instance, which is a shame since dramas like Who Are You used the device to such poignant effect. Plus, I like both actors and find them equally suited to light-hearted humor as they are to heart-tugging drama. And you know, I’m not gonna lie; I’m going to really enjoy the hell out of “paternalistic” hubby being forced to do the dishes, laundry, cook, and maybe wear a ridiculous perm.

The writer has already proven prowess in this genre, having penned the 2006 Park Jin-hee drama Please Come Back, Miss Soon-ae, although in that case the switcheroo happens between a young woman and an ajumma. PD Lee Jung-sub directed melo-makjang hit Baker King Kim Tak-gu.

Oohlala Spouses will follow Haeundae Lovers on Mondays and Tuesdays, and is looking at an October premiere.

Han Chae-ah signs on to Oohlala Spouses

From deadly spy in love with the enemy to light-hearted rom-com? I suppose that’s one way for Han Chae-ah to leave her tragically conflicted character behind once her current drama Gaksital ends; she’s the newest addition to Oohlala Spouses, the upcoming KBS miniseries that stars Kim Jung-eun and Shin Hyun-joon as a body-swapped husband and wife pair.

Han has already begun work on Oohlala Spouses, attending a script reading on August 27. It’s definitely not as tight a schedule as her co-star Jin Sae-yeon, who started filming Five Fingers (replacing Eunjung) while concurrently filming Gaksital, but that agenda still looks packed.

In Oohlala Spouses, Han Chae-ah plays Victoria Kim, a character who grew up abroad after being adopted to Sweden. She’s a woman harboring a “deep inner hurt” and a sad secret. Looks like she’ll have a romantic entanglement with Shin Hyun-joon… which gets confused once the spouses swap bodies. Hee.

Oohlala Spouses will follow Haeundae Lovers, KBS’s current Monday-Tuesday series. It premieres in October.

"Ooh La La Couple" Shin Hyeon-joon and Han Chae-ah kiss for 4 hours

Shin Hyeon-joon an Han Chae-ah kissed a marathon of 4 hours.

The new KBS 2TV drama "Ooh La La Couple" revealed pictures of married man of 12-years, Shin Hyeon-joon kissing another woman and not his wife Kim Jeong-eun.

The woman he kissed was no other than Han Chae-ah, the loveable hotelier Victoria. These scenes were taken in a set in Suwon; one of Soo-nam (Shin Hyeon-joon) and Victoria kissing for real and another of them kissing in Yeo-ok's (Kim Jeong-eun) imagination. The two scenes took 4 hours to make. Sin said, "I was worried we might pass out from all the kissing and be sent to the hospital. I think I kissed all I would in my whole life. I don't mind dying now".

Meanwhile, Shin Hyeon-joon said, "Han Chae-ah is lovable anytime and Kim Jeong-eun is like Tak Jae-hoon and Jeong Joon-ho, a good friend.

"Ooh La La Couple" is about a married couple who signed divorce papers, switching souls.

Kim Jung-eun Turns Into Geisha in "Ulala Couple"

Actress Kim Jung-eun has shown off her charm by turning into a geisha in KBS’ upcoming drama "Ulala Couple." On Monday, the show’s production company Contents K unveiled some snippets of Kim in kimono [traditional Japanese outfit] and posing with traditional folding fans in her hands.

In the picture taken on the set of the KBS drama in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province last Saturday, the “Lovers and Paris” actress portrays geisha Yeo-ok, the previous life of her character Ahn Soon-ae.

Helmed by Lee Jung-sub, the comedy drama focuses on a married couple in their 40s--Nam Il-seok [played by actor Shin Hyun-joon] and his wife Ahn--who find themselves getting tired of their marriage.

One day, Nam and Ahn notice that their souls are switched, and begin to understand each other by experiencing each other's lives. KBS' new Monday and Tuesday TV series will air as the follow-up to “Haeundae Lovers” on October 1.

KBS “Ohlala Couple” Makes Winning Debut

KBS' drama “Ohlala Couple” has made its debut atop the Monday and Tuesday primetime ratings chart. “Ohlala Couple” claimed its first win on the chart by posting an average rating of 12.5 percent during the first week of October, according to data compiled by TNmS [Total National Multimedia Statistics] Wednesday.

The whimsical TV series received the baton from the former winner, MBC’s medical series “Golden Time,” which ended its run last week. The Kim Jung-eun and Shin Hyun-joon starrer raised the roof this week by comically portraying a married couple--Ahn Soon-ae [played by Kim] and Nam Il-seok [played by Shin]--finding out their souls have been switched.

Chasing the chart-topper with a thin margin is MBC “Maeui” [in Romanized Korean], which kicked off its run on Monday and earned the support of 11.3 percent of the total viewers.

Helmed by famed director Lee Byung-hoon of “Jewel in The Palace” (MBC, 2003-2004), the historical drama tells the story of veterinarian Baek Gwang-hyun [portrayed by actor Cho Seung-woo] becoming a royal physician in the Joseon Dynasty period.

SBS’ historical fantasy “The Faith,” starring actress Kim Hee-seon and actor Lee Min-ho, sat in the last place after registering 10.4 percent in ratings.

Meanwhile, AGB Nielson Media Research showed different orders from the TNmS’ during the same time frame.

While “Ohlala Couple” dominated the chart with 12.7 percent of the audience tuned in, “The Faith” and “Maeui” followed next with 9.4 and 9.2 percent, respectively.
