Reason for this poll? I happened to wake up at 6:33 in the morning today and have nothing better to do.

I personally believe equality will never exist between the sexes. Why? Because we are socially constructed into these stereotypes from even before our own birth. Throughout our lives we are constructed into acting certain ways.

I'm sure everyone can think of great examples: The toilet seat argument. Why woman whom beat men aren't seen in equal terms to men whom beat women.

What are your opinions on this?

I did a quick forum search and found no repeats. BUT if I just happened to miss a similar thread, I apologize.

Women get in better in some ways, men get it better in others. It's not like either have a bad rap. That's the nature of male/female relationships in our culture.

I think your question is too broad.

I agree with the user above me, it's too broad.

Anyways, no. Social equality or simply equality? Either way, no. While men an women can be equally mentally capable, they will never be equal on a physical level. That's why the standards are lower in sports for women.

As polx said, in the physical term, no. But I doubt that's the sense the author of this thread is talking about.

Culturally, socially, mentally; I'm sure we'll get there some day. It will take a lot of time, no doubt about it, but if we all pitch in and teach our children that everyone is the same, I'm sure we'll make it. I already don't see much difference here in Denmark where I live. I'm a programmer, not exactly an occupation dominated by females (yet ^_^). But despite this there isn't really any difference between me and my male coworkers. Hell, I even get paid more than one of the other guys. And they neither treat me any differently than the guys nor do they change their behaviour when I'm around. But it goes both ways. I don't demand they hold the door for me (Maker forbid!) and neither would I expect them to 'cuddle' me more just because I'm female. I don't require special treatment because of my gender and that's just as important as men understanding I'm just as capable as they are.

As I see it, the whole gender issue is a load of bollocks and if we could just see eachother as people we'd be a whole lot better off. Ne?

it is too broad but in my opinion we are way to different to be equal but just as other things have respect for those differences instead of trying to make everything the same

If women were equal, they would have full empowerment to choose whatever sexual partners they want, and full power to ignore the rest.

95% of all men would be out of luck, and we'd either have to resort to attacking and enslaving women, the way we did at the start of the neolithic revolution, or go back to old-school mammalian tactics and engage in mortal combat among males until only 5% of us were left alive.

By the way, that's not an argument for, or against equality, it's tangential. On a personal level I stand for equality, regardless of any perceived, potential, or imaginary negative consequences.

No because there will always be people on both sides that bitch and complain about the entire thing in general. Can't please everyone.

I was so tired I wasn't even thinking about how broad this question was. I am thinking in terms of Social Equality. I feel genetics sort out the idea of physical equality.

Well nope, because its kinda a seesaw, one side gets more equal rights and the like, and then the other side is considered lower.
