The older I get, and the wider the spectrum of music that I have listened to, the more I realise that music has almost always been bad. Have you actually listened to some popular songs from the 60's? While most definately my favourite era, comprising of some incredible talent as it did, there are some absolute shockers that at the time were astonishingly popular. The 70's too, some gods-awful music, bad disco, bad glam rock, all of which at the time was exceedingly popular. Old-school punk wasn't all ground breaking too, most was 3 chord, semi musical literate rambling, and don't get me started on some of the crap released in the 80's.

are you kidding me?60s?you prolly litsen to some gypsy folk song crap
hello 70s-80s rock and fuckin roll?

In the mainstream during the 70's and 80's disco, hair rock, synth-pop ruled as king.

And as a little aside, the 60's was also the breeding ground for the greatest rock bands of all time too.

its crap!!!!!!

Not that i don't agree, or that I like most rap/hip hop, but you just described 90% of all music.

^ Even Mozart :P

The phrase "Sex and Drugs and Rock & Roll" was coined by the most unlikely musician. A polio survivor, Ian Dury, who was most famous in the '70s and early '80s

The content of quite a lot of music is quite "far out"... but I for one probably wouldn't listen to some of it if it wasn't. It's the swearing that gets me with rap (apart from the obvious musical void)

Slightly off topic:

Is grime well known outside the UK? Dizzee Rascal, for example?

Edit: Should have put in a link for info about grime for those who're not in the know:

nothing wrong with todays music in general, the problem is some of the artists are getting out of control, not the music

I blame the artist's getting out of control on the corporations that fund them encouraging vulgarities becuase it looks like it sells.
You can't spell crap without rap on the end.

Rap does have the potential to be the greatest form of music since it's invention, but because corporate suits control it and only want to milk it for all the money it's worth, this potentail shall never be tapped.

I understand most of the ppl here, I use to hate rap a lot. But now I listen to some of it. Rap does encourage poor behavior and stereotype the black community in a bad way a majority of the times. But you have to understand that Hip Hop sells. All the big names of Hip hop lk NY, LA, ATL, etc it's a part of their lifestyel and culture. Hip hop is defintely big on clubbing, I don't go clubbing but its what the people want so they can dance. It's not like a rock concert or rave party. I personally listen to a lil bit of everything. Mainstream rap is lk w/e to me, but underground rap w/ actual meang is true art to me.

Too wild? Well, what exactly is youth music today? I guess it would be what ever is topping the charts. So basiclly rap....i dont listen to much so i can only really judge by what i hear on the ol' tv. And since i dont really care about the news...all i know is that someone was getting all blahblbhalblah about rap lyrics...which are pretty damn horrible but dosnte effect me..... All i know is that if I think it sounds good than i'll listen to it. I like popular music i admit it. I love The Killers and i recently feel deeply in love with Amy Winehouse. But i HATE HATE HATE most of the music that fits into the genere i usualy listen to(rock/metal) is popular aka the shitty boyband bands (Falloutboy, Panic at the disco etc...) and i say shitty because i do beleave they are actual human waste. Its all about personal taste and it always well be....
Posted 6/19/07
^ personally i think amy winehouse is the shitty one...they tried to make me go to rehab and i said no no no (she should of said yes!)

anyway...you keep talking about how bad rap is! s/he said youth music not just rap so let's pick out the bad things about rock and pop and techno and all that other stuff.
(if you haven't read my profile it says i'm a music whore so i don't have much bad stuff to say about it =3)

Well I'm a Christian too and I listen to everything. The way i feel about rap is this as a quote from a rap song: "We don't believe the lyrics/We just like the way they sound"

I'll listen to anything with a good beat. And it doesn't make me any less of a christian. I mean, I'm black but taht doesn't make me biased. Music is music and as Jay-Z says: "If u don't like the lyrics/U can press fast forward"

I'm not questioning your christianity, I'm just saying you have to watch what you take in because it becomes a part of you.

That's not why I find the music bad to listen to for christians. While for some people it does become part of them, I think it's just that, you're living your life for God, so why would you listen to music that's about something God despises?

TOF14, I'm a guy. You'd have known that had you taken the 3 seconds to read the A/S/L under my CR point count on my forum prostfile. Anyway, I did say that all youth music is out of control, but that I mainly blamed it on rap music. What I didn't blame on rap I blamed on the stuffed shirts who run the music biz. Maybe we could talk about the stuffed shirts now, and keep ourselves safe from the pests who actually like rap.
