Unnecessary background
Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide When my sister asked me why i would 40+ dollars for a figure of a character, (it was Yui from K-on! but that's irrelevant), we started discussing what a character is supposed to do in a story. As our discussion progressed we came to a mutual understanding that most American stories don't give emphasis on characters. We could only give a few examples of characters that could defy (Holden Caulfield, Fry *yes from Futurama*, and some of the cast from How I Met Your Mother to name a few). This was about two months ago and she's gonna come home in about 5 days. Anyway I managed to pique her interest and she agreed to watch a few anime. I'm not trying to get my sister into anime, but I do want to her to understand the role a character should play and that plot doesn't have to be the biggest emphasis in a story. I decided I would show her: 1.) A show completely driven by characters. 2.) A show where the central theme revolves around the character(s) and 3.) A show where the plot is driven by the characters. 1.)Lucky Star (there is literally no plot, theme, or any other storytelling elements, completely driven by the characters) 2.)Kaichou wa Maid-Sama (theme revolves around the relationship between Usui and Misaki with no over-arcing plot) 3.)Puella Magi Madoka Magika ( Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide Headless Mami... What i would like to know is if there is a better example than the shows I have chosen? Thank you |
