SPOILER I was upset on what happened at the end of Samurai 7, I really like those characters :'[ ENDSPOILER
But the one anime that had the most sad episodes IMO is Naruto
there were times when I would almost cry and the music doesn't help either. Shippuuden had its fair share of sad episodes too.

Clannad hands down. Myself/yourself was pretty sad during the 2nd half of the season. H2o had a sad then happy/sad ending. School Days had a lot of sadness to it as well.
Clannad was worse though do to Nagisa dying during the birth of their daughter. That was my biggest fear while my wife was pregnant.

I'd have to go with Clannad, however after watching Dusk Maiden of Amnesia recently, I'd say it definately fit's the bill during the end.

Clannad both seasons. It was the first thing to make me cry in about 7 years. I love the series so much I imported the Clannad music triple CD set from Japan. There are songs from that soundtrack that I absolutely cannot listen to around people because they will see tears pour down my face. I have never been more affected by anything in my entire life. Just thinking about it now is making me tear up

I haven't seen many that I would consider sad, however, Anohana: The Flower We Say That Day would definitely be the one. That last episode almost made me cry when they were all by the tree.

I say that because by what people say about Clannad it'd make me incredibly sad and depressed which deters me from going anywhere near it at the moment  |
