TL:DR Get the 1.01 patch. (Automatically happens when you launch the Crunchyroll app.) Try streaming a current Anime Simulcast.


Hey Everyone!

Bjaker from the Customer Support team checking in, I just wanted to reach out and thank you all for bearing with us during the first few weeks of service on the PlayStation® 3.

We wanted to point out some known issues and let you know what we're doing to fix them.

The patch that was released on August 8th addressed the following issues.

  • Upon signing up for the app, videos did not work.
  • Skipping back and forth with R1 & L1 between episodes crashed the app.
  • After Fast-Forwarding, if you Rewound, it jumped back to where you Fast-Forwarded from.
  • Random skipping, trouble starting, desync of video & audio.
  • Loading Spanish subtitles.
  • Text Entry for Zip Code was not Alphanumeric.

After the release of the first patch, we received significant feedback that playback was much better, and the app had ceased crashing as frequently. However we realized there were still improvements to be made.

At this point we began testing a new encoding style for the PlayStation® 3. This has shown great improvement in playback through the app, and we're proceeding with updating the library with these new encodes.

  • Desync of video & audio has been resolved.
  • Video skipping at random intervals has been resolved.

Now we are working on addressing how the system flushes memory. As things currently stand after two hours of continuous playback, user experience begins to decline.

If you are still having playback issues, could you provide the following information for us? It will help tremendously as we address and resolve any lingering problems.

  • What kind of PS3™ do you have? (Fat/Slim, 20,40,60GB etc)
  • Is your PS3™ Wired or on Wi Fi? (If Wi Fi, what is the signal strength on the machine?)
  • What kind of Internet Service do you have and what is your max speed on the account?

If you would like to assist with testing, all current simulcasts have been re-encoded. We would love to hear if these shows are playing without issue, or any problems arise while you watch.

Apologies again for the bumpy take off, but we hope to have all issues resolved shortly.

What kind of PS3® do you have?- Fat 80GB
Is your PS3® Wired or on Wi Fi?- Wired
What kind of Internet Service do you have and what is your max speed on the account?- Time Warner Cable (not sure of the speed)

Really hope you all at CR can get this app working property, its the only thing that is stopping me from subscribing for the year.

PS3 Model: 250GB PS3 Slim.
Internet Connection: Wireless on a 5Ghz channel.
Internet Type & Speed: Fiber Optic Cable Line 11 Mbps (1445.8 KB/sec).

Space Brothers plays perfectly.

Good to know things are being worked on. I'm about to try the app again right now. For the record, I'm on a 120gb PS3 slim that's wirelessly connected and gets peak download speeds of 2mb/s.

Edit: I just tried it and it worked exactly how I wanted it to: I browse to an anime and it plays the anime in a watchable fashion with no skipping, desync, lagging, etc. Fast forward and rewind worked fine as well.

All the app needs now is the other resolutions (although 480p on my 1080p TV looks surprisingly good) and maybe rating/comment support.

Sony - PlayStation 3 (320GB) with PlayStation Move Bundle

Is your PS3® Wired or on Wi Fi? (If Wi Fi, what is the signal strength on the machine?) my PS3 is wired

i have cox hight speed internet premier with power boost
my PS3 has 242GB/298GB of free space
the connection speed is (upload 2.2Mbps \download 12.5Mbps)

Don't really use the Crunchyroll app since it doesn't support HD yet but I'll give it a try and let you guys know of any other problems.

Edit:

So after using the app for just 6-7 mins I was watching Gintama and as soon as I clicked the next episode the app crashed and returned me to the XMB. I guess thats problem is still there.

What kind of PS3® do you have?
-FAT the 2008 Model with a 120GB HDD

Is your PS3® Wired or on Wi Fi?
-Wired...PS3 Wifi sucks!

What kind of Internet Service do you have and what is your max speed on the account?
-I have Fiber Optics 16+ which makes me go up to 22Mbps download and 1.5Mbps upload.

The internet isn't the problem rather the app should be worked on. I know you guys are working on it so no worries there but the app crashing is defiantly an issue that you guys should be focusing on more!

-Wi-Fi

What kind of Internet Service do you have and what is your max speed on the account?
-I'm not sure what you mean by the kind, broadband with a modem(dsl or something like that, can't remenber)...the download speed is 4mb/s but the ps3 usually gets 3.8mb/s.

The app never crashed for me, but the videos usually don't star at all, when they do theres lots of skipping but for 1 second max and sometimes at any part of the current video start the message "nex video in ..."

Even without HD I still think the app is great and the anime still show up good to me.
I have a:
PS3 slim 120GB
WiFi connection
Cox digital cable high speed connection
Down and upload speed I don't have tht info in front of me at this time.

Still I have only had one picture to voice lag problem
And never a crash problem but sometime less times than not there will be a lag or jagged cross over from show to show in my queue but that's it. Still it's an awesome and lag and very pleased.
Gotta keep in mind that it is still fairly new and like with anything there's always bugs soo good job CR

First I would imagine you want the information on our systems and internet if we're actually having a problem ALONG with what the problem is, not just system information for the fun of it. System information without what's wrong provides no way to connect a specific problem with a particular internet connection or system type.

I'll probably download it sometime soon and I'll be sure to post if I'm having any problems and provide all details along with the information you asked for.

I'm also assuming the reason why there aren't 720p and 1080p videos is because you're working out all the problems with the current app before encoding everything for the PS3 only to find you have to do it over again?

What is the strength of your Wi Fi Signal?
Service Provider (AT&T, Charter, Comcast, etc)

Can you please try playing the newest episode of Space Brothers and tell me if it starts?
If it does not, is there any way you can try running a wire to your PS3 and then try again and tell me if that resolves the issue?
