As for the "Is archers/mages allowed" argument, I answered that. O-O

There are multiple skills in S.A.O but Kirito explained that the creator wanted a game where you would have to move around. That doesn't fully dismiss archers but it does make you question why the developers would take away magic with that thought in mined and not take away arrows & stuff. Who knows really? So far I've only seen Swords, Axes, Maces, spears, needles, knifes, and daggers in the anime. Maybe a bow will show up soon. I hope it does though. My submission is a dual axe user so I'm good but I saw allot of cool entry's with bows.

Also dual users. I think that's allowed too. This one is totally my guess though! O^O We saw Kirito hold both swords in his hands when he was testing them. I'm not sure if he could fight with both of them but there's more then enough reason to think so.

so unless the person was watching by other way or had read in the manga about...

Still,
the main reason of the contest wasn't to make a pure perfect character for the anime
(even the examples were making fun of healing~ there's no need to be so dead serious, is just to be FUN)
because it would be pretty impossible, not only because the GM can manage the game on the way he wants
but because the anime creator can... they can release a episode that will brake something we created and well..
there's no explanation at all xD;

Also,
Archery works like throwing knifes, so if the person is using an actual arrow it would fall to "piercing" class, that's not magic. (unless is a magic arrow made of some sort of skill) and, we use archery on real life...so that's Not magic xD
Magic is based on Mana-power, at SAO we don't have, so if your weapon don't depend mana it isn't a magical skill...
