Well I'm a open minded Christian. I don't agree with the close minded Christians who thinks Harry Potter is evil and anime is bad, video games are too violent, (Since I play a lot of those :P) I even heard something about how pokemon is evil. lol It pretty much boils down to I know difference between right and wrong so I'm not going to go around hurting people because i saw it in an anime or video games.

Also I don't agree with "Religion" Because some of the rules or what the church does sometimes I don't agree with. I think anyone who believes in God can praise him anyway he or she wants to not what the church says how to. So I would say I don't believe in Religion I believe in God.

You're right. Christianity is always meant to be a way of life, not a religion.. Have you read this one? These are passages from "The Jesus of Suburbia" by MIke Erre.

"Religion got in the way of finding and following Jesus Christ. They were so focused doing the right things and avoiding the wrong things, keeping score and pronouncing judgment on others, that they missed Jesus entirely."

"He (Jesus) came to turn us not into religious people but into joyful and holy people, abandoned to him so as to do his work on earth. He came to turn us into people who know how to love and celebrate."

"Religion can restrain behavior, but it cannot change the heart. And the heart what what makes us clean and unclean."

God don't care if you prayed x amount of times. He only cares how we lived our everyday lives true to him.

Please don't ask why Christians do things against the bible and teachings. That book says a lot of crazy things. Things like masturbating will prevent you from getting into heaven. Just let them justify and balance their religion and personal lives as they see fit.

It depends on the anime you watch, some genres of anime don't really cover specific philosophies or put them side by side, and when confronted with an idea in opposition to Christianity, like reincarnation, it doesn't mean the persons idea of death doesn't necessarily change

I am a devout Christian considered by some.

I state it very simply, it is not about religion, it is about relationship.

I have a relationship with my God.

I enjoy some Anime, other Anime I do not enjoy. I love Mecha Anime, but I also enjoy those that hit on Greek or Other Mythology. Yes, those show are contrary to my theology, but I don't believe what is in the Anime, but I do enjoy a good story.

Plus there are also hints of the good things in some Anime, Good vs Evil, Sacrifice of oneself for others, etc.

I don't think it matters what form of entertainment as long as it doesn't adversly effect your relationship with God, it is ok to partake.

You have every right to get critical toward Christians because we're nowhere perfect.

I know this is probably getting old, but here are my two cents:

I am a practicing pentecostal Christian, and I have logged more than 3 months worth of anime (as calculated by anime-planet).

When I say practicing Christian, I mean it - I'm at church twice a week on average, and I even went to Bible College. I don't enjoy that people automatically assume that I'm closed minded, but that's another debate that probably shouldn't come up in this conversation. I would like to support what Alucard said and say that quite a few of my Christian friends are anime lovers too.

Firstly, I've always appreciated Japanese culture in general (martial arts, anime, food, etc). Anime is entertainment, not religion. When you watch Bleach do you believe that there are Shinigami? How about Angel Beats or Ano Hana - do you take their stories as fact? Neither do I. I find their stories funny, interesting or sad, but that doesn't rock my beliefs. You were asking about anime that show the dangers of fundamentalism? It is important to think about those things. I don't follow any ideals blindly, I studied and understand for myself why I believe what I do (hence Bible College).

With that being said, there are some anime/manga I avoid because I don't like the content BUT at the end of the day I know it's all fiction and entertainment. So I'll keep watching anime - and thanks for asking.

Also, Karmacide - maybe read up before you make statements like that.

I've done a lot of reading. I was raised christian too.

It was just an example. I know a lot of the old testament isn't to be taken literally or as the word of god. A lot of people think that though. All I was really saying was that if you want to you can find problems with most things in the bible. It's up to individuals to decide what is right or wrong, and pointing out "You shouldn't do X because your a christian" is dumb.

So I googled "anime jesus" and here are the results!

That first picture has an amazing video that goes with it. It was so good!

Anyways, I'm christian but I love anime. Its not even if anime goes against my religion (which it doesn't) it's know the difference between real life and anime. If you can listen to music, watch movies, and tv shows non-christian stuff then you can watch anime. It's just because anime is different and those Christians are closed minded.

Yeah, after seeing those images I actually was really curious about what the source material was like. I've seen an animated Buddhist movie, but not one of Jesus Christ so it might actually be nice to check out.
