If the average human life span was 40 years, how would you live your life differently?

I guess I'd start by dropping out of high school seeing that almost half of my life was spent in a place I hate so much. Then I'd start living life to the fullest somehow.

Boo!

You, having been a ghost for five years, would be able to tell me how to live, so I'd ask you.

I don't know. most of the ghosts I see in anime seem pretty messed up.

I wouldn't live it differently, I actually have no desire to leave a long old life, dying at 40 is enough for me. The way I'm living no is pretty problem free, and I'm doing what I want to do it without screwing up. I'm content but don't want to live a long life as an old person.

Watch more anime of course. Society would shape around the average live span being 40, so we'd probably spend less time in school, adult age would be like 12 years old, retire around 30 or 35,and things wouldnt be too much different in terms of how people would normally behave... no one would go skydiving every day of their life or behave wrecklessly...

If one takes care of one's self, one stands a decent chance of living a long life as an old person who feels young, at least in the developed world. At 41, and "half-way" through life, having accomplished a fair bit, I'm still looking forward to the other half and perhaps then some. I want to grow old with my wife, see my kid(s) grow up, continue working as long as I'm able, maybe travel more (when my kid(s) are older), learn another language, etc... One doesn't have to make the history books or even the local paper (does anyone even get one anymore?) to have lived a "significant" life. If 40 (average) years was all I got, then I'd accept that, and probably be retiring now and making sure my wife and kid have provisions for the future (and probably wouldn't have had a kid at 41); however, I'd personally say 40 years isn't enough.

You have a point here. 65 is the retirement age because when Bismark initiated retirement, the average lifespan in Germany was 60.

The generals in many famous battles from my country's history were, in many cases, in their teens and twenties.

As late as World War I, Midshipmen serving in the British Navy and subject to the full workload, risk of life and limb and brutal discipline of same where as young as 12 years of age.

Nowadays, kids don't move out of their parent's basements before they're 30.

I can agree with you, but as a ghost, you get to choose how you'll be, right? I think billowing out of cupboards would be awesome.

heh... can't argue with that. Myself If I WERE a ghost I'd be tempted to emulate the Dark Horse comics super heroine named Ghost. An insubstantial mind game playing vigilante with a pair of blazing .45's

That's the spirit. As for me, considering I'm not a ghost, I'd work on learning and becoming conversationally versed in as many languages as I could, traveling as much as I could, raising my son right, enjoying time off from work or study with Anime, friends, family, what have you, so...pretty much what I've been doing. I could always get a couple .45s too...I wouldn't count that out. Protection and all.
