I'm certainly weird, although that was definitely observed long before I got into anime A good weird, mind you. More of an... endearing idiosyncrasy. Possibly.

I just surround myself with other weird people. My best mate's definitely even weirder than me and he doesn't like anime (I know, why am I even friends with him?!)

Well what do you think about people that chew on fabrics, like furry clothes or stuffed animals? is that normal to you? if not then it falls under weird. "if the action being witness isn't the norm, or something seen on a regular basis then it is considered weird/odd"

Whenever i tell people that i watch anime they look at me like I said I eat paper. And then they say "but you look normal" and i'm like "am i supposed to look a certain way? lol"

Most people i know that watch anime "LOOK" like they watch it, unfortunately :'3

If something isn't normal to me, I won't call it weird, to each their own, and next time someone looks at you like your eating paper. You should look them straight in the eye and eat some paper. Just to fuck with them.

Probably. But who cares, you have your own interests and I have mine, if you have a problem with it step up and I'll show you how weird I can be.

Depends on what you mean by "weird." I'm classified as weird, but I'm weird in general, not because of my love for anime.

I guess I'm not friends with the anime fans that attend my school because they're always talking about it, and they're completely obessed with it. I love anime, don't get me wrong. I'd even call myself an otaku, but I'm not like the otakus at my school. I shower daily, (I'm sorry, but it's true. Those anime fans that go to my school stank something fierce,) and I have other interests.

Some of my friends do hate anime because they deem it as porn. I can't win. But my close friends, the 2 people I actually care about, don't judge me for it, and accept that I am indeed an otaku,

Anime is pretty weird. I mean, think about it: we're not only watching foreign sci-fi programming, but ANIMATED foreign sci-fi programming. It doesn't get any weirder than that. To try something as weird as that, you either:

1. Know a friend that likes anime
Considering how weird anime is, the likelihood of that is low. But, in this case, I would say the person who got into anime this way would be fairly normal.

2. Being into video games
This is how I got into it. A lot of people like video games, but I loved video games. It started with Elite Beat Agents, and I loved it so much, I tried the Japanese version, which I loved. From that, I became a Japan-fan, and then got into anime.

2.5 Being a Japan-fan
I can see this happening to someone, but I've personally never heard of a case.

3. Have a lot of time on your hands
Think about it. When you get bored, you wanna find something to occupy your time. When I ran out of good American sci-fi, I turned tto foreign film. But, this boredom can stem from several places.
A. Social Outcast
Life happens, and when you just don't fit in, you spend a lot of time at home. Social outcasts can be: (1) perfectly normal with bad luck (2) slightly weird (3) poor social functions (4) unable to function socially. Most con-goers would refer to option (4) as "that guy." We've all seen them. They're just born that way, bless 'em. Not their fault, but that's the way the cookie crumbles.
B. Outside Circumstances
Life happens. Homeschooling, for instance, can leave you with a lot of time. I was homeschooled. I admit, I am a little socially awkward, but nothing beyond that of your average nerd. I am dual-enrolling in my local college, and have found friends (both otaku and non-otaku alike) just fine. So, in summary, these outside circumstances can be: (1) homeschooling/tutor (2) health problems (3) family problems/circumstances.

So, to sum it all up, most otakus who are socially "weird" were probably "weird' to begin with. I think that some, when they take the fandom too far, become "weird," but I think that's pretty rare.

Yeah, I think that's pretty much the head of the nail you've hit there, with a hammer (Most Convoluted Agreement of the Year...). On a more general scale, your average anime fan is most likely gonna be a fan of video games, sci-fi etc. anyway, so the same consideration pretty much applies to any fandom whatsoever.

Just look at some of the more hardcore sports fans. THEY'RE INSANE And yet the sports following is one of the most widely socially accepted.

Those people had no childhood. I feel bad for them.
Even my stupid brother and his stupid friends watch anime right after playing basketball. Even the noisiest people in our class talked about anime. I guess most people, who watch anime, act sane and look normal as the rest of the kinds. Unless they go WEEBO (I felt stupid not knowing this term until today. Thank GOOGLE!)
