Even before I became an anime fan, I was weird.

I wasn't sure if I had posted my comment few months ago...

Some anime fans are loners, but most of them are actually out-going and social well with their classmates or coworkers.
Other horrible stereotypes that most anime fans are creepy or ugly looking, which it's not true.

There's fans that actually likes to play sports, dating a boy/girlfriend or whatever.
Sometimes, we can be a little crazy but then again, I have a crazy family members and friends growing up. So....everyone is crazy, besides anime fans.

When you fell comfortable to a little open of being an anime fan to your family and friends, it might a little strange but they had to deal with that. If they think that's immature, that's their problem.
I meant, how many people do you know watches "Jackass" or other dumb shows like that.

You don't had to force yourself to tell everyone about your lifestyle. Some people outgrow anime sadly, but that's life ^^

That was till i started checking out the Forum on this side about a months ago.
Every activity has some weirdos that's just how it is but after reading a lot of the forum posts in the last months i found myself wondering if the Majority of the anime fans are that hmmm lets say special.

I think EVERY anime fan is not weird just because they love anime. Not even those into LARP. I feel like many of them make themselves want to be weird because it is a little escape or a protective blanket for them. I have watched anime since I was 6 and I never felt the need to hide it. Anime fans are not loners either. If they were, there would not be an anime convention. That is the best place in the world to go to for us! At least I am pretty positive about it. You can have friends that either enjoy anime as well, or just respect you and what you are. I go out with my nerdy shirts, bar hop, go to concerts, hang with friends, walk around in public with my knowledge of anime, gaming, or just whatever you consider geek or "weird". I love who I am and I do not care if everyone else thinks it is lame, weird, or I should grow out of it. You guys should not beat yourselves up just because you feel like anime fans have been given a title or the table all the way in the back room. If friends find you weird, then maybe you need some open-minded friends. Enough said

I think it's common for people that might be considered weird to like anime. I'm not saying that watching anime makes you weird or anything. I think that weird people are just attracted to anime in general. Perhaps it's the subject matter covered or how it's so different from other forms of entertainment but a lot of strange people watch anime. The same can be said about video games too.

I don't think anime fans are weird, but there are certainly weird people watching anime.
Just like there are weird people going to a sports event and weird people watching crap like two and a half men.
It's mostly clueless people who grew up on cartoons and thus think of anything animated as "childish" and by extend anime fans as weird because they watch sexy, childish stuff (if that makes any sense). So it's basically ignorance and confusion that make us look weird.
Those people just have problems understanding and accepting things they've never been taught.
I think weirdness is a matter of perception and is greatly influenced by how much you're willing to adapt to your surroundings.
Anime fans are just as weird as any other fanbase.
I mean... Cars. Seriously. Who the hell likes cars?

Sadly I have not meet that many Anime fans from where I currently live ,but when I do meet very little of them they tend to be a little strange but very well for me to converse with. Though to most I ,myself, seem strange but not in the geeeky portray you speak. more of a playful stange way...Also I have yet to meet anyone who likes, seen or even knows as much about anime as I do.(in RL)

to be fair most people want to live in a fantasy world were anything is possible that's just normal and everybody is weird in some way this is what makes people interesting and if they have something they love then they are not normally bored unless you meant boring if so then boring depends on the kind of person you are, i very rarely leave my room but this is due to the fact that i don't like people and i am very anti social this may be due to been bullied in school due to my disability (kids can be cruel) and i also don't care about many things other than family video games and anime i don't have a sense of what is that word empathy i think i just don't care about the bad things happening around the world or the death of people out side of my friends and family.

Yes, most anime fans are indeed weird. I would know, a lot of them are my friends. But there's nothing wrong with that.

Me personally, you couldn't tell I watched anime just from knowing me.

I don't think there's any way to accurately represent how many anime fans are unemployed, or socially challenged/whatever; that shouldn't be relevant anyway. As long as you're not hurting anyone and pulling your own weight in life, anything negative that anyone says about you is nonsense. If that's not the case, then you should seek help for your own sake.

As far as being 'weird' goes, 'hardcore' anime fans are like the the people that go to baseball games with their face painted in their team's colors. You have to ask the question: if people didn't do that, would baseball games/anime conventions be as interesting as they are? (if you consider them interesting at all of course)

Looking down on one another has been a very human thing since the dawn of time; nothing new here. Sometimes I hear baseball fans calling football fans names and vice versa. People get called Narutards for liking Naruto. Even if you were this 'ideal' normal, I'm pretty sure people would be calling you a boring average Joe.

So what? It's nobody's business.

BTW. It's almost reaching the one-year anniversary of this thread. wow.
