Post Reply Are most anime fans weird?

Nothing's wrong with being an anime fan. I don't think that people who like anime are weird. Some people overdo it sometimes, though.

I honestly know more weird anime fans than normal people who enjoy anime. I think of anime just like any other show, like Game of Thrones or Breaking bad. I enjoy it, love the music, and basically that's it. I used to be in an anime club where the people there were just...too weird. Like, socially awkward people that smelled bad. Our president was actually a really cool, down to earth girl, but damn, there was a girl in the club who actually had everyone in the club (except me of course) believe that she was actually from Japan and blah blah blah.

I like Japan too, not only for its anime, but the only thing she knew of japan was anime. (And there's so much more) It was annoying. Anime lovers who don't live in reality, annoy me. Weebos annoy the crap out of me. I actually started studying japanese because of anime, but I don't go around calling everyone baka and everything kawaii. It's become a strictly educational passion for me. (The perks being that I can read raw manga with relative understanding).

Anyways, what I'm trying to say is, I watch a lot of anime, but my life doesn't revolve around anime in an unrealistic way and I hate people who can't tell the difference between anime and real life.

I never knew any not "weird" anime fans until I hit the college level. A couple of friends of mine go to a university together and are in the anime club there, but they are some real bros.

I'm not very social... Though, I've been that way before I got into anime. I just don't actively go out and seek to spend time with others. I mean, sometimes I do. Just depends on what's going on at the moment. Lol

I'm pretty normal. I played basketball and would flirt with the cheerleaders (to no avail), and hang out with the "jocks", but I was also in Choir so I hung out with the people who were into music and drama. It's a bad stereotype that has a lot of negative connotations. Not unlike the term "gamer" (since I like video games too). But why should you have to care? If they're your friends, would they really condemn you for liking the occasional anime?

im a really weird person im mean WIERD! but thats what my friends like about me

What is "weird," though? I don't watch a lot of anime but I do have my favorites - FLCL, Paranoia Agent, etc. And I watch a lot of cartoons. I think it's creative, and currently don't see the problem with indulging myself with it.

I guess the only times I've been uncomfortable around other anime fans is when I was at the anime club in high school. I think I'm turned off by people who think this or that is real when it isn't.

Honestly, I think the concept of a person 'looking like they watch anime' is kind of stupid. It's like saying to someone, "You know what? That guy looks like he likes fixing air conditioners." Haha! Everyone s their own person and has different qualities, some people enjoy anime and others don't. I have met people, who seem strange to me, that don't watch anime and some that do. I have also met many people who are, for the most part, "normal" and watch anime regularly.

Anime to me is just a hobby, and a fun one at that. Some may take their interest WAY too much that it becomes the highlight of their life (example being anime character pillows, etc.) My parents never understand my interest in the fandom, most of the stuff I like are on 80s and 90s series when the genre was an underground culture before reaching its current mainstream status, in addition to current hits such as Soul Eater and Sword Art Online. I do live a normal life as a college student and take part in activities not related to Japanese culture/anime. I'm just a down to earth normal guy like everybody else, basically.

Well, I'm definitely a weird person, but I don't think it has anything to do with anime. I'm an introverted college student, but I was like that before started watching it. I have a girlfriend and friends whom I hang out with, as well as being a very family oriented guy and am very sociable when the occasion arises. In my opinion, watching anime is just like watching any other show.

As far as people going crazy over anime and having it consume their life, it's no different than (using a more recent phenomenon) a die-hard Game of Thrones fan that tries to collect everything for that series. The only difference is that an Anime fan has more marketed merchandise to choose from.
