I embrace the fact that I am weird, random, and a geek. You can find more friends that fit this description if you go to anime conventions. Most of my awesome real life friends I met at cons. They are the most warm hearted, friendly, accepting, true friends I have ever known <3

"Most" are weird yeah but not all.

There are people out there who just like the things they like and don't have to force their entire life and culture around it (I see the irony in this given that I am clearly a metal-head and look the part) but when it comes to my anime, games, movies, everything else in life. I like what I like, I'm not ashamed of that, and encourage others to try out what I find enjoyable also.

Well, when I went to A-kon in May I had fun. However, yes, some of the others were pretty damn weird. (Not saying I disliked them -- rather, I'd say they're weird in a cool or bearable way). I acted "normal" in the sense that I didn't act any different from my usual self, which in that case was me being a civilian guest at a hotel who likes Japanese culture.

I enjoy talking to the other people there, but I always bring friends to those things so that I don't feel like any given conversations I have could potentially become really damn awkward due to the fact that many people there have contrasting preferences and personalities.

considering most of my high school football team including me watched anime, I would say it depends on who likes it.

Thanks to anime I think way too deeply about life, more than anyone I know would care to even think about. I'd probably agree with you. Most of my other friends that watch anime are pretty weird... or maybe insane (that's me! :D)

the real misconception comes because most normal people who watch anime have a lot of things gonig on in their lives and its not like i know the kind of shows anybody watches. It is the exceptions that only talk about anime that get all the attention because everyone else that watches it are nearly as apparent.

Most anime fans aren't weird but when I first got into anime and looked through some fan sites of stuff I watched I could see how some people might get that idea. I mean I consider myself more an outsider to anime so there are some things I don't understand like terms used that relate to what "type" a female character is and whatnot ( which is ok ) but man some stuff found on some forums whether it relates to an anime, the characters in anime or things in general can come off as extremely awkward ( cringe worthy) to read or understand.

Well theres two ways you could go if you watch Anime. If you talk about anime with your friends who like anime, then good for you. I don't have friends that like anime, but I have seen this one kid in my school force people to watch episodes and then scream at them when they say they don't like it. Don't be that kid. But we are all pretty weird.

Fans I know aren't weird . Maybe some fans are a little introverted, but that's not considered weird to me .

Aren't most people special/weird/nerdy in their own ways? Like, you can like whatever you like, someone is going to find you a weird.

I'm similar in a way. I'm a metal head however I don't look the part according to others, or at least they're surprised/don't expect it. I'm never really decked out in band merch when I go out though so I don't exactly have the visual signs. It's the same for anime, manga, gaming and reading. People just don't expect it. Sometimes I wonder what kind of person I look like then given that my core interests and hobbies surprise people to no extent.

I agree that "most" are weird though. We've all seen a "weaboo" or proud self-proclaimed Otaku about a million times that believe it's necessary to add "desu" to the end of every sentence despite grammatical error and misuse that dress in ways that our mainstream society does not deem the norm.
