I would consider myself weird, but that's just because I don't fit any stereotype. I would call myself a loner. I don't like to be around many people. I would always prefer to spend time by myself.
That being said, I wouldn't say I'm some kind of freak. I drive a motorcycle, played football for seven years, am in college, and I'm working on becoming a pilot for the AF.

Still a hardcore anime fan, and I'm not afraid of people finding out.

To answer your question
Are "most" anime fans weird?
Yes
But, of course, by most, not all of them are weird.
There's always the occasional people who aren't weird.
but yes, there are lots of anime fans who are "considered" weird by the "norm."
Since anime fans won't consider them weird.
for the people that "are" weird. It's sometimes because they're already antisocial, probably don't have friends, already a little bit weird. Then they drifted into anime.
Anime is a sanctuary to them.
So of course they'll absorb what's from anime as well.
This won't explain for all weird anime fans. Anime fans are weird for all sorts of reason. The above example is probably a common reason though.

People think they're weird because of the apparel they wear, which is pretty different from the occasional American.
You got people walking around with naruto headbands than a beanie, hat, and 5 panel.
Other people got anime plushies hanging off there back packs,
People have Gaara's gourd as a backpack.

I hang out with a popular crowd, and still like anime and shit.

How do you define "weird?" Everyone is different and everyone can be called "weird" for doing any number of things.

Being in university I've come to the realization that its not "normal" to still watch anime, however I'm really not alone in doing so. In fact recently our beloved hobby is becoming more and more wide spread. Actually I think just like society has gotten more and more used to the fact that grown individuals play video games, so to are they starting to accept anime. From my standing I'm seeing more and more people getting into anime. I was talking to a friend who didn't know I watch anime about tv shows like Dexter and what not and he started telling me about this cool new show he found called Attack on Titan. When I asked him if he watched anime, he said he had never seen any. Its kind of funny though if you think about how the most popular movies are always the super hero ones. Now why is that and how is that any different from our fantasy stories? Is it simply because the medium is different (even though it still originated from comics just like anime)? Is it because super hero comics are westernized?

Personally speaking sure I'm "weird". I have all but abandoned western tv for anime and manga and I primarily listen to japanese music. I enjoy spending time and talking to my friends but you will never see me at a party ever. If I have the option to stay in a group or be by myself, 9/10 times I would choose to stay by myself. I am in university and I have never had a drink or a smoke in my life. Its not because I have any personal beliefs like oh alcohol is the devil or anything like that, I just don't see what purpose it serves so I just don't bother. I suppose because of this I've also never come home after a terrible day and told myself I need a drink. The normal response I get when I tell people that I've never had a drink is the typical weird look. I wonder though....when did we decide it was weird to drink because we are bored or stressed? Seems kinda silly to me but I digress.

It doesn't matter if you are weird or not as long as you enjoy being who you are. Its never good to suppress your interests and hobbies just because someone thinks they are weird. Its not like watching anime is a crime, so keep at it and enjoy yourself. You only live once, so why waste it on bullshit you don't care about when you could spend it watching your favourite anime

Most anime fans i know who people think are weird arent genuinely weird, they just try to do so in order to fit in with the weirdness of other anime fans. talk to them in person outside the topic of anime and most of them are just like you and me.

No. Not even the cosplay crowd. As long as you know the difference between fantasy and reality, you're just fine. I love anime fans.
