I will just go with a short reply on this thread saying like this : ( And probably some people already said the same thing, I haven't read all 40 pages ... )

There is Anime fans that are weird of course, there is weird people in everything, but remember there is still people that are completly normal.

I have - how to say this - plenty of people I know in real life that enjoy Anime in lesser or much more "obsessive" extinct, and usually the more obsessive fans are more loud about it.

As to say, you are right with that Anime fans are weird, but still wrong because not every single one are weird because it is a huge thing, many different kind of shows so it would be weird if it wouldn't be - how to say this - normal people that likes Anime.

PS : I think I could say that I am a weird because I am weird - Pretty obvious in my case haha x)

oh come on, i know pornstars who watch anime and they're some of the most cheerful social people from what i've seen on their facebook profiles/timelines and every single they record and talk about in their daily lives.

sure, anime tends to create new trends and may influence pop culture quite significantly, and generally anything that causes a disturbance in "the flow" may trigger negative responses. some people are just very narrow minded,

like, you know, those snobby chicks in high school who thought that the guys in involved in politics/military were weird just because it's not the stereotypical high school student, ie drughead, lightweight alcoholics, _inexperienced_ bedtime "players", cool, athletic

but hey, no need to worry about what others think of you or the bigots and their stereotypes, if you enjoy what you do, do it.
just be yourself.

I don't have a problem with people calling me weird, because fair enough, watching anime, )which is basically kids cartoons to them) isn't really normal for a teenager. But, the thing that gets me is that I apparently watch hentai.

Anime was just an addition to my already incumbent pile of weirdness. It IS a little more asynchronous to the things I already do though, so I usually don't bother telling people I'm into it. I don't feel like explaining to them why it's a superior art form.

I mean, just LOOK at my list of activities (there are forty listed). I'm good at MOST of them. I'm successfully self-employed, somehow managed to have a lot of interesting friends, a fairly nice guy, been in martial arts for 21 years, specialized in combat for 13 years, been teaching for 11 years.

You got a problem with weird, little man?

Joking.

Maybe.

Fans probably. Like otaku, talk and shower their figurines probably. But there are normal otaku that just like to collect figurines and watch animes. I watched a lot of anime many years ago probably when I was 13-18 and hours of Cartoon Network when I was really young every single day, i don't watch anime now but I'm just pretty weird. But I find everyone is polarized and weird in their own unique ways. To be completely acceptable by everyone is probably someone that has excellent emotional intelligence or just a hypocritical person with masks.

I define weird as someone different in perspectives and stand out from the rest because they are critical thinkers and not afraid to express their thoughts even if people might not be pleased. I have this weird imagination that probably everyone wants to be themselves but they are either too afraid or conditioned to behave in a way that makes them seem very alike, probably culture.

I honestly don't think you can classify weirdo's as people who watch anime. No lifers come in all shapes and forms and just because you know a few who watch anime does not mean that everyone who watches anime can be put in that same category. It is like saying everyone who collects guns has a ranch and have their property booby-trapped drinking a bottle of moonshine sitting on their deck. Just cause you know that guy doesn't mean others that collect are anything like him.

Yeah most of them

Most I've met in person were one, or more, of the following -
*Obnoxious
*Looked down on others [talk about others and belittle them]
*Intolerant [Either about how much superior their hobby was to other things (many tended to hate sports that I met) or popular shows > every thing else]

Intolerant one could have fit into "looked down on others," but I meant that they would just talk down about people they knew and not in the general sense. I've only met one truly socially awkward person, but he had a good reason for it.

In how I would characterize anime fans, I'd say they are pretty normal as people. Everyone is pretty mean and annoying.

Guess I have to preemptively edit -
About hating sports, disliking them is fine, but every single one I've met always made a comment about sports along the lines of "if you like it, then you're stupid!" I can't really remember exactly the words as I quickly cut those people out of my life, but yeah. I say I hate the cold and snow - I don't say people that play in the snow are dumb because of it.
