a lot are really cool and perfectly normal, but then you've got the people who are like OBSESSED and give them a bad rap

i knew these people that were way into it and they were really antisocial, and they would always bring up anime in class presentations and stuff, and they would like call each other by the names of anime characters sometimes. they'd always go through these big personality changes too, like i think they were pretending to be different characters all the time :/ it was weird. they would also (poorly) cosplay at school for no reason

the one guy in the group (the rest were girls) thought he was so broody and cool. he'd sit in the corner and glare at people and mutter to himself all the time. then one day he announced to our class that we had to call him darkness. and then a month later he did it again only this time it was the stallion lmfao

Well, let me rephrase that...

Not all Anime fans are weird. Just the "Hardcore/Over Obsessive" ones that isolate themselves from reality and have no friends outside their world...Roaming, actually, just sitting in a corner reading Manga...
(I don't mean that to sound rude or anything, it's just my take on how I see the hardcore fans...)
(There is a difference between anime fans...)

The way over the top... Obsessive fans, are the ones I would not associate my self with....

They are creepy...Truth be told.

Waffles.

I knew of a group of kids in high school that thought that ninja mantras were real... One would even climb up into a tree with grass in his mouth and then drop down and strike what he thought was a cool ninja pose... And he would wear a trench coat to school... In Hawaii... During the summer.

And then there was my friends ex that thought she was a real life ninja, I play hit my friend and then she "snuck"(saw her doing it, but since she was in cray cray town, she thought she was doing it expertly) behind me and did the throat cut taunt behind me... Was kind of worried she would try something because she was batshit crazy, violently unstable batshit crazy.

I blame Naruto.

See...Those are the people, that ruin the image of anime...
I try to stay as far away as possible and avoid them at all costs.

Idk, if someone "pretended" to slit my throat, I would immediately walk away...

Yeah, thankfully they are a rare species of anime fan.

You are probably weird if you are obsessed over it. But then again, that goes for everything else. That all starts when you want to get away from reality. You obsess over something.

That was the case for me, but I moved past it and now I watch a few series per season because I realized that animes are extremely fun to watch, even when everything goes well with my life and I barely spend time on the PC on the weekends.

People just stereotype and bunch all anime fans in one group (i think...). And from that inaccurate deduction, they're less willing to try out anime themselves.

Besides. Me? weird? more like SSEEXAAAYYY!!! OHH YEEAAAA

I find anime fans to be more open then anything... I love being able to walk up to someone and talk about chobits or eureka seven... makes me feel as if I had a bond with them :3

i wish i could find someone to actually talk about that stuff

You need to talk to someone about anime IRL? Why?

In my experience whever I ran into another anime fan IRL, we would always end up arguing since we would usually have very different opinions on most shows.

I started to watch anime because we a few years ago we forgot to pay the cable bill and all I had were naruto dvd's that I never watched and after that day..

My life was changed, .

They have crazy anime fans and trust me I know some..

but I have no reason to so far where I don't know the difference between anime/manga and my reality.
I have a life, friends and a job so when I have time to unwind and relax I go on my cpu or ps3 and watch my new episodes on crunchyroll

I'm a firefighter, bartender, and security guard.
I own a motorcycle (No, not a moped)
And I'm the biggest open otaku possible, up to the point that i'm purchasing a Black Rock Shooter decal for my car.

Am I weird? Sure, quite a bit I'm sure.
But not in the weird sense you or your friends are probably imagining.
I am a tad on the loner side.
I don't have tons of friends.
But here's how I see it, who are YOU to judge ME?
Nobody.

By the way, you can check my history on here, I'm usually FAR more civil than this, but i'm reading all of this and you don't seem to be actually wanting to DISCUSS it, you just keep defending your viewpoint of we're all fat hairy nerds and HORRIBLY unfit for, as you put it, the 'real world'.

Maybe you should think before posting something that judges a based community, on a forum, run by said based community. Just a thought.

WHO CARES IF YOU ARE WEIRD AND WATCH ANIME! I AM AN OBSESSED ANIME FANATIC BUT I STILL HAVE FRIENDS WHO TAKE ME AS A REALLY GOOD FRIEND! the only thing that counts is if you have a good character, friendly, and you know the difference between anime and reality...

Maybe cuz most people wont think someone ''not weird'' would like anime, I'm not weird, or am I? I am kind of weird yes, but well I know what you mean though a friend of mine really liked anime but she didn't want people knowing it. But I kind of felt the same way some time ago, but I've realized that.. WHO CARES..? I love anime, and if I'm weird .. well yeah I'm weird. If doing certain things make you a loser, or weird, or whatever, it doesn't matter as long as you feel happy with it. So yeah, if you are a loser, then find other losers and be a loser with them then you will be winners, I don't know if that makes sense, but that's my opinion about it ;D !

Yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss. and aside from what's highlighted I genuinely agree with everything you've pointed out. He really couldn't have picked a worse community to complain about wierd anime fans either.
