I could not find a thread on this, so sorry if it's a repost.

Where do you all buy your jrock/jpop from. Does any one know any sites that sells their music as digital downloads?

Other than iTunes Japan (itunes.apple.com/jp/genre/nyujikku/id34), I don't know of any where else that would sell singles digitally. You can buy from Sony.jp as well I think but I've never purchased it from them. For iTunes Japan, because they do not accept foreign credit cards, you have to purchase iTunes gift certificate card from 3rd party companies who accepts credit card. You can then use that gift-card to buy iTunes music from Japan.

I have Linux so for me, I cannot run the software/player to access their proprietary site to purchase, so I've looked at Amazon.co.jp but their selections are mostly "organ" (MIDI?) based for pay-by-download musics.

Thanks, I can't read Japanese and I haven't figured out how to navigate the sony.jp site. I was using the Japanfile site to buy music, but I'm having trouble using it now.

There were a few odds and ends anime/j-pop sites that I use to buy from but they're no longer around. I haven't really dove into purchasing more since beyond iTunes or just listening to streams online.

Though I know play-asia.com is still around for such.

Oh by the way, Sony Music uses mora.jp (for example http://mora.jp/index_anime.html) You can think of Mora to be the Sony Walkman version as compared to iTunes is for Apple...

Mora does have an application similar to iTunes but it is proprietary to Windows only (no Linux or Apple/Mac) called "x-appli" (http://www.sony.jp/support/pa_common/x-appli/download/index.html) but again, I only have Linux so I cannot test this out.

I did see that Mora does accept major credit cards, but I do not know whether they check for foreign I.P. address or not...

I hope others will see this thread and make suggestions for other alternatives where we can purchase digital singles from foreign countries as well as for any platform (including my Android phone). I do understand that it must be a very compicated DRM, especially the copyright issues against foreign countries makes it not so desirable for Japanese companies to do business outside Japan... Not to mention the fact that they probably make enough profit inside Japan catering just for Japanese that they do not need to bother with foreign country businesses. Until then, we are probably all stuck purchasing "physical" CD/DVD's rather than digital/virtual merchandises.

Yeah, It's a bit depressing that you can find all types of ways to find music (foreign media in general) illegally, but you have to jump through so many hoops to do the right thing.
