If I'm rewatching an episode or series, I usually speed through parts. It also depends on the series.

To each his own. It is true that there is simply too much stuff that comes out and for some, like myself, it's impossible to keep up with even the drop in the bucket, much less everything that comes out every season . So I don't. I am an exceptionally slow watcher of all filmed things that I choose to watch, and particularly of anime. I watch every opening and ending, even if they stay the same throughout the series, every next episode preview, every filler or flashback, and most special features if I'm watching something on DVD. And I rewind if I couldn't read the subtitles fast enough and take in the art simultaneously. It's an obsession borne out of a love of film and fantasy. I love doing this, but I can't say it's a "better" method because obviously I will be exposed to far fewer things than what I otherwise would have loved to watch.

For the OP, I think it sounds like you've found out a way to sift through what's out there and decide how you want to allocate your time and attention since like you said, many plots can follow a similar outline...in any medium, really. I'm curious. When you re-watch something you really like, do you slow down then for the details? And are you ever tempted to watch a series that is over 13 episodes long, because there are so many great ones that are longer? I just realized that most of the ones I've seen are longer than 13 episodes. And I was thinking the other day, if I would just watch the shorter ones every once in a while then I wouldn't be so behind and out of touch all the time!

You don't have to watch EVERYTHING, just watch what you think is good for that season.

quality over quantity, I'd much rather have a discussion with someone who has seen 1 or 2 series than someone who skips around saying he or she has seen 20 all of which are skipped through.

Why the hell would you skip through it?? You say you go through 4-6 series a day but really your not even watching half of it...

okay newbies "aside from the ancient on crunchy roll" this is what you call marathon watching and it's what I used to do all the time from 04-09 until legal streaming really kicked off. Personally I would torrent an entire series with really low encodes so around 1.4 gigs for a full series and marathon entire 2-3 12-24 episode series in 2 day time and repeat a day later. You are not in the wrong for wanting to do this "aside from torrents which is illegal people".

Personally I'm back to this method due to the amount of mediocre anime being made now "summer 2012 i'm looking at you dammit". If something fails to grab your interest to watch week to week, then try this method and you might enjoy the series in the end. I personally plan on doing this for hyouka and swords arts online but this is just me.

If I have to speed watch, chances are I dislike the series.

For biiiiig shows like Naruto or Bleach which is riddled with filler and backstory, sometimes I find myself skipping if it's something I've already seen (in flashback), or out of the main story arc that has no relevance to anything that's happening... i.e. Bleach's random one episode of "Let's go to the Beach!" half way through a huge epic battle.

Anyway... sometimes I find I end up watching like 12 hours of anime per day... LOL

I've never speed watched anime before ._. I didn't even know people did that. The closest I've gotten to that is trying to find a specific scene in an anime I've already watched. But skip parts of a brand new series? Nah, I'd rather just drop/hold the show.

aside from my post.. I did for bleach by skipping over 100 episodes from 130-230 when cr picked it up and still knew what was going on =__=. Aizen=bad guy, espadas are evil etc. I'm actually happy I did this so I didn't torture myself with 100 episodes of unnecessary crap

Depends on the show. I usually skip a few seconds especially if it's a recap.

Seems like you need a quick fix. I don't understand the point in skipping through countless anime, each one I enjoy is special for certain reasons.

i guess i understand skipping filler arcs from bleach or naruto or animes like that but why even bother watching a regualer 12-25 ep series if your just gonna skip around? just read a synopsis of it.

Sorry, but I don't understand. If you cover a 12-26 episode series in 2 or 3 hours, you're essentially telling everyone that at least half of the series (or in your case, almost every series) is "boring" to you. And, if you find that much of an anime boring, there's probably something more worthwhile you could be doing with your time. How do you feel about skipping half of a movie? Skipping to the "good parts" of a song? Or would you open a novel to a random page and start reading from there? It really doesn't make much sense to me... o.O

All i skip is OP and ending. New serie. I watch both once ..

Oh and i noticed by skipping ending and go to next episode can be confusing sometimes. Since some anime. after the ending the story continues..

Huh, I was about to jump to the OP's defense about skipping. I only skip fillers, and sometimes a few minutes of the show if I read the manga or I'm bored. But you shouldn't skip new shows you're watching. How the heck will you know what's going on?

sometimes skip fillers if I know it is all unnecessary to the story but I never speed watch. Only thing I fast forward is the opening intro and credits.
