Kendosis wrote: How many of you ski[p boring parts of anime lol ? I go through roughly 4-6 series a day, takes about 2-3 hours per series depending on the amount of episodes xD. It kinda became a habit now, I just watch the main plot points and on to the next episode. The anime would have to be unusually good for me to actually sit through a complete episode. Are there any other speed watchers out there or do you prefer to watch every detail ? Yeah I do this too, and eventually the habit transferred over to live action series. But to make it through 4-6 series a day???! I WISH I had that kind of time!!!! I maybe watch up to 10 episodes a day (standard 24min) and skip maybe 5-8 minutes of the entire episode where I see fit or "detect" a long scene. I do this with books, and some days I question myself if I'm getting the full experience. |

well i heard of Speed Reading but about Speed Watching is the first time i heard about it
i guess you watch anime just to know the plot i am too like plot-driven stories more so i skip some episodes here and there too but you will miss character interactions though especially on a character-driven stories most people i observe watch shows to see character interactions they love those character-driven stories |

If I can't watch a full ep of the anime (not counting filler ep's like in Naruto, which I usually skip) I'd just drop the series. What's the point of skipping half an ep? I don't get it.. I enjoy all the animes I choose to watch or I don't waste my time watching them.. my free time is to precious to me!

I would never skip over things, I watch 1 series a day (12-15 episodes), only if I'm at home all day or at the fire department.
If I don't like something, I'm not going to waste my time with it, even if that time is only 3 hours, it's 3 hours I could spend enjoying every second of a better anime. Actually : Possible reason to speed watch I SUPPOSE would be if you work at an anime store and just want to know each anime you sell, but it's ones you'd never ever watch. I guess I'd be okay doing that, I'd still feel like I was wasting my time though :S |

So I don't. I am an exceptionally slow watcher of all filmed things that I choose to watch, and particularly of anime. I watch every opening and ending, even if they stay the same throughout the series, every next episode preview, every filler or flashback, and most special features if I'm watching something on DVD. And I rewind if I couldn't read the subtitles fast enough and take in the art simultaneously. It's an obsession borne out of a love of film and fantasy. I love doing this, but I can't say it's a "better" method because obviously I will be exposed to far fewer things than what I otherwise would have loved to watch. For the OP, I think it sounds like you've found out a way to sift through what's out there and decide how you want to allocate your time and attention since like you said, many plots can follow a similar outline...in any medium, really. I'm curious. When you re-watch something you really like, do you slow down then for the details? And are you ever tempted to watch a series that is over 13 episodes long, because there are so many great ones that are longer? I just realized that most of the ones I've seen are longer than 13 episodes. And I was thinking the other day, if I would just watch the shorter ones every once in a while then I wouldn't be so behind and out of touch all the time! You don't have to watch EVERYTHING, just watch what you think is good for that season. quality over quantity, I'd much rather have a discussion with someone who has seen 1 or 2 series than someone who skips around saying he or she has seen 20 all of which are skipped through. I agree, you don't have to watch everything. I don't even try to. As much as I would like to, I don't even manage your suggestion to watch what I think might be good for that season, within the season or anywhere close anyway. Some stuff might go on the queue but by the time I get around to them after other things, the new things have aged like fine wine. I guess I just like vintage anime! In relation to the thread topic, I do have respect for those who develop a system of screening or speed watching numerous anime from diverse genres to narrow down what they want to see in detail, although I hope at some point these super watchers should be able to find something that really catches their eye or their mind enough to entice them into watching it all the way through, even if it's just a few series a year. Although I certainly have my favoritest of favorites, I have enjoyed every anime I have seen, except maybe a couple of them did drag a bit but I still derived enough pleasure to make them worth my while. And I have a sneaking suspicion that this widespread enjoyment is partly because I simply love the medium, but also primarily because my method of selection is quite rigid and I don't explore all the genres enough. But hey, at least "exploratory" things get on the queue. They may just keep getting bumped by other priorities. |

I disagree I have no respect for any "speed" watchers... simply because I watched all of my anime(s). ![]() And those are highly respectable and enviable stats befitting an anime kami! I do go by seriously "watching" something as actually viewing it in its entirety at some point, so I wouldn't count episodes or series that have been "speed watched" or "sampled" without being re-watched in detail as truly having been completed, just skimmed or previewed, basically. Since my time management isn't the best I prefer to slowly watch an interesting series and linger over the artwork and script and such rather than rushing through things in order to keep my finger on the pulse of new releases, or even old releases. Some people can accomplish both quality and quantity but unfortunately I'm just not one of them. So it's amazing that you've watched so many series fully! Very inspiring. |
