not as good as the anime but those whom read the LN before watching the series will bash me about that. Seems to work out that way. Ive only read vol one though and half of what they showd so far in the anime was vol 2 or side stories. The last episode starts to pick up at chapter 5 vol 1 of the LN.

WARNING

The first Novel was written as a stand alone short story and contains the ending to the anime, you may want to read it after finishing the series..

Saajuk is correct that the anime has included some of the side story's from volume 2 and a few bits from others...

I personally liked the Novels for the amount of detail and also all the bits that are thought but not said which don't always come across when converted into film/anime.

There definitely worth a read and if you could buy them in English I already would have

Already read to the latest one on Baka.

As Saajuk said those that read the LN Before the anime will complain about what you said as in my opinion the anime isn't half as good as the LN. The anime episode 2 is from the Side Story "Aria In the starless night" Episode 3, 4 and 7 is from SAO vol. 2 and 5 and 6 is from vol. 8

This is one of the Major reasons why in my opinion the anime lost a lot. For example what Liz knew of Kirito's dual sword skill Before anyone else. This was informed in her arc in vol. 2 but the anime had to remove that as the dual sword skill wasen't introduced yet.

After the anime ends (Will probably a 12 episode one if they don't include the 3rd and 4th volume) I recommend you guys to read the LN.

Anyone else that look forward to see them animate ss chapter 16.5 btw

I'm going to read them aslong as the translations are good, if the style ends up swaying too much i might just get sick of it and stop. So far i read the first 2 chapters and I was more immersed than the anime, seriously those episodes are so short. There are certain details you can't get from the anime and there are certain visuals you can't get from the novel. I plan on re-wathching the series and read the novel chapter by chapter.

They actually did hint that she already knew in the latest episode, it mentioned it was supposed to be kept between liz and Kirito.

Yeah I know but not like they did in the LN, you'll see how she got to know it when you get to the second volume.

I started reading the light novels after I first saw the anime. I think it adds a dimension to watching the anime. A bit more understanding of the characters.

I'm up to volume 7 now. I don't like Asuna's mother.

I've currently read up to volume three chapter something (I skipped the 2 volume because of volume ones cliffhanger. I eventually have to read it). If you just watch the anime then your going to miss a lot of the details the novels tell you, so I'd recommending reading both. Also I agree with MouseUK, let the anime end before reading the books or you'll spoil the ending of the anime.
