The episode has not even aired in Japan yet. It first airs in Japan at 12AM on Sunday. It is currently Saturday 3:11PM in Japan right now.

On the shows CR page it should tell you when the show airs on CR. If you have your local time settings correct in your profile it will even adjust the time to your local time. As an example, the SAO page says "Simulcast on Saturdays 2:00pm CDT' for me. It is now currently 1:05AM CDT, so that means there are still 13 hours remaining until the episode is available on CR.

What is being referred to is no doubt the following under "Availability Information" on the series page:

Due to a production delay, episode 9 will be delayed. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

If I had to guess, that most likely means the publisher didn't get the episode to CR at the scheduled time for them to begin subtitling and encoding.

This is the second time that Sword Art Online has been delayed. I know there are reasons for everything, but I'm still very upset that this keeps happening. I would wish that Crunchyroll did a little more to get these shows on time!

The delays are most likely out of CRs control. THe first SAO episode that was delayed was because the channel that CR had the license for the show with also delayed airing the episode by a week in Japan because of the Olympics. CR is not allowed to simulcast an episode until after it has been aired in Japan on the channel that CR purchased the license through. If the channel in Japan decides to re-schedule the airing of an episode then CR is forced to also follow their new schedule.

Trust me when I say that CR has always done everything they can to get the episodes on the site as soon as possible but there are just certain things that happen in business that they just can not control.

My post above was for a previous SAO episode, not the current one. For episode 9 I have no idea why it was delayed and I was only using the above as an example of how not all delays are under CR's control.

It looks like episode 9 will be available in about an hour.

Yeah I know that's true, but that's true for any business. Things happen that are out the company's control, but if it keeps happening then customers will get upset no matter how "reasonable" the excuse is. That's why companies try to do things to mitigate the likelihood of them happening. Especially when the customers have alternatives.

Its only happened once (Episode 9) as the previous "delay" wasn't really a delay as the episode was purposely aired a week later in Japan. CR most likely already had the episode subbed and ready to release on the website but because of their contract with the channel in Japan they are not allowed to simulcast the episode first. (CR is sent the video and script ahead of time from the anime studios so that they have time to translate the subtitles, they don't "cap" a channel like fansubbers do)

"Delays" on CR are very rare and most of them are because of how the episode is scheduled to air in Japan and nothing to do with anything on CRs end.
