sometimes I guess but then I think people use what they enjoy so you have to have a love for it in the first place.

I totally agree! Everyone I know who's not into anime, I try to tell them that some of the best story-telling, characters, action, etc is done in anime. Most of them just brush it off, but it's true. It's hard for me to enjoy many hollywood movies anymore because I have a high standard for entertainment because I need something to be as good (or as funny) as some of the best anime that i've watched...which most pale in comparison. The only story/plot in entertainment that I was really impressed by and was on that same level was Red Dead Redemption (a video game if you didn't know)...but other than that, it's hard to really think of many non-anime entertainment which had better story than anime.

I feel your pain dude. Been goading and poking a friend of mine to try some anime out on this site. I got him to watch a bit of it in the past and he liked it! The problem is catering to each persons taste I guess.

Hmmm .... well even though I do love me some anime I still think I like movies more. So overall, Anime movies are true treats for me. :D
I'm not sure what's going on in hollywood recently but this year has been filled with a lot of mediocrity speckled with glimpses of brilliance. There has been a lot of traction in indie movies but those can get seriously saturated with something I call "art fuck". Not sure if I can describe that aptly but it's like they sacrifice storytelling to go in some "New direction" which usually doesn't pan-out for me so well. It's kind of a crap-shoot in that regard.

and there is good stuff on TV here it's just getting to be more and more on premium channels (Game of Thrones, True Blood)

As for funny .... well in general I think that's probably what "we" do best. The only anime that had me laughing almost every episode was Gintama. There's still some solid stand-up performances but again, usually the best of those are on premium channels like HBO. It's a treat when it drizzles down to Comedy Central. Not to mention "The Daily Show" "The Colbert Report" "Louie" "How I Met Your Mother" and even the cheap thrills of "The Big Bang Theory"(used to really hate that show not sure how I got sucked in)

Yeah I'm a bit of a media addict LOL

Yeah I'm definitely not as much of a movie buff as you are lol (I think the last movie I saw was Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Slayer, or The Avengers) so I don't usually frequent the theatres too often (mainly because time and money issues). Yeah I know what you mean, there are a lot of good-quality TV shows on HBO and some of the premium channels, though I never get around to them, not sure why. But I've heard about Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead (which I've seen a couple episodes), Breaking Bad, Madmen, Boardwalk Empire, etc etc...I just think it sneaks by my memory at times to actually watch them. I think I tend to watch more of the primetime stuff (kinda sad, I know, lol) such as Wipeout, Amazing Race, I used to watch LOST, and yes, even The Big Bang Theory (which, like you, I really never liked, but then sat down to watch it and turned out to be pretty damn funny for me). It just sucks because American TV is pretty much filled with Police dramas which I can try to name them all (NCIS, all of the CSI's, Law and Order,Rookie Blue, Bones, etc etc)...too many to name. lol I don't watch very many Indie movies, but I think I know what you're talking about with the "art fuck" term. Personally I hate FPS camera shots where it's so damn shaky it's hard to tell what's what and makes me dizzy (one example is Cloverfield...or Paranormal Activity), I know that's just my taste but I can't stand it. lol...But yeah, I've heard that there are some great Indie movies out there.

I think once you get someone who isn't interested to actually watch a good anime, they usually like it! But the hard part is getting them to watch it in the first place. I showed my buddy who likes anime (but he usually watches dubs and not subs), I showed him 1 episode of Gintama (the one where he gets drunk and sleeps with all the female characters) and he said it was the funniest thing he's ever seen. It just took a while to finally get him to watch in the first place.

To a certain extent it does, I do enjoy watching anime. Video games, watching a good movie, and especially music does take my mind off things.

games and anime tend to be the only enjoyment in my life. but if i truly want to escape i watch a cool new movie and get lost in the story. i can do that with anime but i tend to be forced back into crappy reality when when my computer lags or crashes. had alot of fun today re-watching the digimon movie (DVD) just me alone in my room. i love that movie<3

Sometimes, yes. I don't think it's a bad thing to use something as an escape for a little while, provided it doesn't take over a person's responsibilities and obligations. Sometimes I watch Anime for fun too. It depends on what's going on in my life. For me, Anime is a good way to "recharge" or "recover" from a bad day. Anime did help me keep my sanity when I was having a hard time in high school. If it weren't for Anime back then, I might have completely snapped/completely lost it, I'm afraid. Luckily, I don't have to worry about that anymore. I don't always have time to watch Anime every day, but I am thankful that it's there if I need a temporary escape from the daily grind, or if I just wanna have a little fun for a while. I prefer more happy Anime, but I don't shy away from the darker stuff--unless I REALLY need some cheering up (but that hasn't really happened since high school). In the end, I think moderation is the most important thing to consider.

I sometimes do it to avoid facing a problem in real life. But eventually, something inside me will tug my brain, and off my butt goes, away from the computer.

Yeah I do it all the time. Then I get inspired from watching to do something. After I realize I can't really do anything that was in the anime, I go back and escape my depression by watching anime. Repeat.

I watch it because the geek posted anime stuff on facebook and I thought it was pretty lame. A few months later which turned out to be summer, I checked out what he posted and then watched it. I got hooked so I just started watching anime in general from there...I started talking to that geek and now he's one of my best friends...i should stop calling him geek now xD

When I was young I abused anime. Now I only watch like an hour or so a week.

Young people you should go out and enjoy yourselves!
