Aparently, we do not have games like Sword art online for gear wear. Well its under development i think> I want to try something cool like in that anime, but of course xD without getting stuck in game.

Angel Beats! and Sword Art Online reference? ^^ Anyways, I think it would be fun, however virtual reality truly scares me. What if something goes wrong?

I'm sure something could go wrong but why would that stop us? If such hesitance would have deterred us in the past, we wouldn't be flying the great skies or sailing across the vast oceans connecting the far corners of the world together.
I think all the greatest feats of engineering come with some inherent risk and will take some daring pioneers to make it safe and effective for the rest of us. And I'm sure we have plenty willing to be our cyber pioneers for the new age.
Godspeed, VR gaming testers. Let us know what it's like so we can join you ASAP

It would be amazing. I would definitely be the first batch of volunteers who would try it out.
I mean look how amazing the graphics of gaming are nowadays. Imagine if you could live in it... breathe it and feel it...
It would be so amazing, I would be so addicted.
But a technology like this probably has time limits... I doubt you can put your brain under that simulation for a long period of time.

I don't see why not. Technology changes so fast, it'll probably be here before we know it.

I would camp outside the store for weeks before it went on sale just so I could be one of the first people to get a nerve gear.

As long as it doesn't end up being like SAO then I'm all for it but even if it was like SAO I'd probably stay in a town and become a merchant to avoid dying... I take to many risks when I play games.

If SAO was real, I'd be going all out. That's how awesome life should be past a certain age. Makes everything that much more meaningful.
Waking up and thinking "today could be my last day" ... it's refreshing. For me at least.

its already in development, so far its just simple medieval style sword fighting is the begining. hopefully there will be more to it. but thats really the future of human technology. 3d visualization of some sort. whether is holograms or "nerve gears"
the author of SAO create the future, basically accel world where eventually you'd get brain implants and than a more external form.
and then eventually you'd get a world like fractale, where you use holograms to do everything for you.
i'd think that the human race would die off or go into a state of crisis before we get full "nerve gear though'.
we are still working on visualization aspect of it.
the brain wave linking is still pretty far. we only got brain wave reading. but linking your brain to a network is nearly impossible

All of reality right now including your mind and body could be part of a simulation/game right now. It is possible that we could a be mega advanced future civilization's computer program that is being run within a super intelligent computer system that is capable of simulating all of reality and everything within it down to every detail. For all we know we could all be and this reality in it's entirety just a simulation of our future civilization past.

um.... maybe. But I think it would create too many problems.
People would probably give up on reality all together. There would be too much of a risk.
And what about horror games like Dead Space and Doom? Those games would literally make you go insane from so much trauma.

Or Slenderman. I can't think of anybody with the stamina to last more than a couple hours.

I believe that a lot of what happened in Ghost in the Shell will happen in real life eventually, almost religiously. I keep seeing little things that connect man to machine in news articles and it's becoming more and more apparent that this will happen. So yes, I believe that virtual reality gaming will happen, probably within the next 40 years. Probably before it happens scientists will have to understand our DNA and everything about the brain, along with the continuous connection to man and machine.
I think the real challenge, however, would be building actual worlds that responded similar to our own. So, in that end, you would essentially have to create the laws of that universe, hence making whoever created it a god.
I kind of fangirl about this stuff a little too much. =/
