I own a sword. Though it is a really cheap, crappy sword.

Katana wise no I only held the wooden kendo practice ones, our Sensei wouldn't let anyone anywhere near real ones for obvious reasons, but as for the more medieval ones I've held replicas, and tried fighting with the blunt edge ones, it's alot harder than it looks. A couple of seconds and I would have been dead multiple times had it been real battle.

As an iaido and battojutsu practitioner I have held and used bokuto, iaito, shinken and nihonto including hundreds of years old Japanese made swords while in Japan (the latter owned by a kendo fourth dan). I own bokuto, iaito and shinken.

Have a gladius, katana, and claymore, and a couple other non-sword melee weapons.
Also got to carry a saber in a practice parade... felt like a total badass.

I've held a cheap katana not sure how real it was it was sharp but i think it wasn't made out of the same materials as a real one... it probably was around 15lbs give or take might be wrong on what type it was just know it was japanese... the biggest and heaviest sword i've heard was a middle age sword remake of what they carried in those days. i was 10 or 11 at the time and he was as tall as me and had to be like 40-60lbs i can't tell you for sure but i grabbed it thinking i was going to play with it and i about pulled my arms out of socket.

yes i have held many swords and use to own a fair few.
Ive held a -
Katana
Gladius
long swords
short swords
great swords
Anglo-Saxon/Viking era swords ( they used the same swords pretty much)
also various battle axes etc but those are not swords

I've never held a sword but my friends dad has a Scimitar looking sword and showed it to me. Another friend of mine has a katana in his room just sitting their nonchalant lol. I remember he pulled it out the sheathe and I was like "I NEED THAT NOW!" The closest I've ever come to holding a weapon was a magnum on New Years Eve because my dad let me shoot it in the air. I probably would purchase a sword in the future when I have spare funds just to have it sit in my room and just look cool like my friends.
